Sabertooth Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Has anyone here climbed Stormy Monday? I've seen some posts about a ski descent, but no climbing info. I assume that the season is early like the Adams Glacier (from when the road to Killen Creek is plowed until July 1st). How bad is the rockfall if it's a warm day? I have the Beckey Guide. Looking for some additional info. Thanks. Quote
wdietsch Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Sabertooth .... this is a really fun route, I've done it twice. The first time was mid-June about 1983. Me an a buddy were actually headed to do the Adams icefall but it was such a cluster-f^ck of gumbies we opted for Stormy Monday. Rockfall was of no real issue. Low temps, good snow year, only reach "bitch" was the decent down the North Ridge. The upper gulley was pretty straight forward. We used mostly pickets (leap frog) and if I remember right a couple of pieces of rock pro near the small cleaver on the climber's right just before the couloir proper. The second time we did it was late October of 94/95? If you decide to go at this time of year (given resonable conditions) take 3-4 screws, a couple of pins and a few pieces of pro 1 to 2" along with a second tool and be ready from some waterice in the gulley (sshhhh) ..... you will have a blast! enjoy ..... Sabertooth Posted March 7, 2003 Author Posted March 7, 2003 Thanks for the response. I had no idea there was ice in the couloir in the fall. Hmmm... Is it mostly rock or mostly ice with some rock? No crevasses right? Quote
AllYouCanEat Posted March 19, 2003 Posted March 19, 2003 There is a Shrund at the bottom, but it offers little challenge. There is definately some ice in fall (I can't vouch for the quality. I'm usually in search of softer stuff). There will also be a few hundred feet of rock in the middle. Enjoy, jason... Quote
Sabertooth Posted March 19, 2003 Author Posted March 19, 2003 (edited) Jason, is this your picture of Stormy Monday from the cascadeclassics website? Nice photos on there if it is. Just answered my own question, the website in your profile is the same. Thanks for the beta. You guys have done a ton of ski mountaineering! Edited March 19, 2003 by Sabertooth Quote
AllYouCanEat Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 We have fun. I wish I didn't have a job, then I would have more fun. It is good to hope. I will probably climb stormy this spring. We're pretty slow on getting stuff up on the website, but if you bring Stormy up again sometime this spring, I could give you an idea on how it is shaping up. Quote
