Dre Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Anyone been to the small but growing Valdez ice climbing festival? any first hand opinions? Thinking of jaunting up there in February, for the festival and possible alpine objective. Quote
climbingcoastie Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Skipped last year, but went the two previous years. Great time! I highly reccomend it. Plenty of ice to keep you busy for weeks. It's cheaper to fly into Anchorage and rent a car and drive to Valdez. Yea, it is a 5hr drive but it would save a ton! If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Quote
pu Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 My wife and I are going this year. I have heard nothing but positive reviews of the climbing and festival. We are flying to valdez due to using air miles for tickets. Otherwise I have heard that the Anchorage rental car tactic is best. Quote
Dre Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 I just singed up for the Intermediate & fast alpine clinics.. so i guess I'm going. Hope to run into you and climb! Quote
Jake_Gano Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 You will have fun. It's a great chance to hang on some pitches steeper than you can lead to work technique. Dress warm and pack whiskey - there is a lot of standing around waiting your turn to climb. Quote
