  1. I would prefer skis as well. My concern though is the descent from HC to the TH with weary legs and heavy packs. I tend to forget how to ski in this condition( or at least my legs do).
  2. Thanks 96 and Bill. We got some good info from the Ranger station as swell as your links. The only unanswered questions remaining are whether the road will be open to the TH, and whether to bring snowshoes or skis. It doesn't appear we will have running water up high unless we get some warmer weather. PUMPED!! Hopefully no crowds either.
  3. Weather and snow conditions permitting, I am planning a trip to the NS of Shasta at the end of May. I’m looking for any info on camp locations, water, route options, etc. Can’t seem to find much regarding this route (which is why we are choosing it-AG on SS was a carnival 3 years ago). Any info would be appreciated.
  4. Headed out Thursday afternoon for a skin up to top of Palmer. Horrible condition above 7200'. No visibility (<50') and wind whipped snow everywhere. Be careful. I would come up with an alternate plan for you and your lady friend.
  5. I have a pair of Scarpa Matrix for sale. Used maybe 6 times, then trashed my knee (not using the boots though). I believe they are size 27.5 Mondo http://www.backcountry.com/scarpa-matrix-at-boots-mens
  6. Horribly unstable conditions up there right now. In a departure from the norm, no one was stupid enough to try to go past Hogsback yesterday, although there were 4 climbers from California that were hell bent on ignoring everyone's advice. They finally turned around high on the HB. HUGE avalance came off WCR. Crown looked to be about 6-8' high with a runout of almost a mile and 150 yards wide. That entire southern face is a ticking time bomb right now. ::
  7. Read the recent TR on the PG route and was wondering how the chute to climber's left of PG was looking. I will be taking some moderately experienced climbers up the hill in mid-June and would like to avoid the conga line on the Mazama route. Any info would be appreciated. The PG route looks interesting but with the lack of pics it was hard to tell.
  8. Kenny, as much as it pains me, I have to admit I agree with most of your post. On the other hand, I don't believe MB ever wanted to be the AD. And if he did, I think he found out really quick that he doesn't give a damn about the volleyball/swimming/danceteam/etc that an AD is responsible for. In addition, I think the Syracuse offer that CK received forced Belotti to take the job to keep Kelly. The big spit in the face move would be if he ever takes another job somewhere else. Post Script- a little jab at you Rodents- There are punctuation keys/Shift Keys on your keyboard. I know the University of AG in Corvallis didn't care about these skills, but the real world does.
  9. Should have fired Kent years ago. Worst game-time coach in the Pac-10. Kilkenny will step back in temporarily. Can my beloved Ducks just stay out of the news for awhile? JEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
  10. What size are the boots?
  11. Used very little. They are too big for me. Would consider trade for randonee/touring boot size 26-26.5 (42-43 Euro. Or sale for $195. Scott 503-632-5263
  12. As a member of not just our mountaineering community, but as a member of society, Luke will be missed by both those that new him and those that didn't. From what I have read, this gentleman was a "contributer". His altruistic character has been documented (although maybe inadequately?)by the media. Long live his memory by those that knew him intimately, as well as those that knew him in spirit. May you and your family be blessed and comforted by whatever god you worship. Media-PLEASE stop calling us "hikers"!
