  1. I may think Glassgowkiss is an asshole, but he is right on all accounts. Fuck this guy. He endangered other people by forcing them to brave the same conditions he was too afraid to confront. Fuck him in his motherfucking ass. If your shit ain't broke, walk your ass down or die trying. Yeah, your life is worth a couple dozen guy's lives because you were too unprepared to deal with the consequences of your actions.

please put down the crack pipe.

    Fuck off.

  2. We need fewer fucking human beings on earth and need to quit consuming so much.

Amen. People need to realize that population control goes hand-in-hand with green living.

TOO MANY HUMANS. It should be one child each -- replace yourself, no more.

As much as I agree with this sentiment, it sounds very similar to the PRC policy of one couple/one child. That's a slippery slide to start heading down.

Technically, I'm suggesting two children per couple. That's way less slippery ;). I think if you want to have more, you could buy somebody else's child credit who doesn't want kids

I tied off my yimees after one kid. Let the bidding begin!!!

Did this bloke even have a good map and compass? I bet not. Better question: Did he know how to use them? Nope.

pretty bold statement. Do you even know the guy? How are you so sure of his map/compass skills?

I consider myself really good with map and compass use and I have one experience where even with diligent use of the tools and using a rope team to keep it going the right way, I was still way off due to the accumulated errors inherent in the system. Granted it was on a flat ice field, without the benefit of a fall line, but sometimes things go wrong.

Well, I am a bold guy. Perhaps you are not as good with a compass and a map as you think? If you practice your pace counting on different kinds of terrain and with different loads, you CAN absolutely keep your margin of error very low. Perhaps people don't use dead reckoning; or simply don't practice it.

I would bet by left testicle that guy that got lost couldn't find 3 points on one of our land navigation courses. Altimeter, Map, Compass and the ability to use them will get you ANYWHERE you need to go. You think a glacier is bad, try a flat desert in Eastern Africa on a 25 km movement.

All this whiteout shit is just an excuse. If you REALLY knew how to dead reckon, you could do it; albeit with some concentration.

If you had to google dead reckoning, you probably don't know how to use a compass and map well enough (as I am sure most here did).

  5. Well, I guess we will have to disagree on that. Been on every continent, in all kinds of mountain ranges, deserts, forests and jungles, never been lost with a map and a compass. I KNOW the vast majority of people on this board cannot ADEQUATELY use a map and compass. By that, I mean the ability to both ACCURATELY terrain associate and dead reckon.

Did this bloke even have a good map and compass? I bet not. Better question: Did he know how to use them? Nope.

I am sure that there will be a knee jerk reaction in the follow-on posts as people subconsciously know that I am right but can't admit it.

  6. A map and a compass and the ability to dead reckon would probably have fixed this. If you were to spend the $ that you spend on a GPS and take a class instead, you would be much better off in the long run.

Its not that hard. Know your pace count on varying different terrain, head on an azimuth and go! Compasses are not magic. I suppose now that exactly .0001% of the population even knows how to operate one with the most basic of functions it kind of is...

  7. [existential crisis] What's fuckin' real man? What's fuckin' real? [/existential crisis]

It's like Bone 2.0 over here. Fuckers are coming out of the woodwork.

I'm off to looking glass. Gonna freeze my baguettes off!

  8. So you agree that the 9/11 conspiracy theories taken up in the Popular Mechanics article are "highly improbable fringe" theories.

    Progress!!!

80 percent of the CIA's resources are spent on disinformation. The "straw man" is a well known disinformation tactic. Present an obviously false theory then try to tie it to the credible theories to discredit them.

100% of the statistics in the post are made up on the spot.

  9. Science is rapidly discovering much more about this subject

how rapidly? like if you gave it a miles per hour?

    would it outrun a cheetah?

btw, did you know the egyptians used cheetahs for hunting? true story. pretty cool.

I just brought back some polio from Afghanistan and gave it to my kid. Don't want the Government to be tempted to try and use chemicals on my kid for mind control. Yep... he'll be better off. Gonna give him some malaria tomorrow; in case they ever get a vaccine for that. Got yeller fever last year. Gunna be a tough kid to give asp that's fer shur.

Yer raht Kimmo! Fuck vaccines! All the sheeples taking the vaccine will protect mah littluns!

We may have a solution to overpopulation; hippys' kids. One good run through of a really good disease, could be fun to watch.

  10. How about a little Christmas spirit around here. The secret 911 perps will still be there after Jan 1.

[rayne wilson voice] FALSE! they will be teleported via CIA/Extraterrestrial teleportation device 25DEC2012 to an undisclosed location in the VIOX Galaxy IOT facilitate renumerificationalism of the transgenderification the the species. [end rayne wilson voice]

  11. Let me know if you wanna grab a drink or do some climbing in late December/ Early Jan.

    -Scott

Addendum: Would really like to do Even Steven again.

    Happy Holidays.

    Yep, drunk again.

  12. For the first three days the route involved climbing through steep rainforest, free climbing up to 5.11, numerous bivies on the 2000-foot granite wall in stormy weather and complicated aid climbing. On day four, the character of the route changed to remarkable alpine ridge climbing on snow covered rock in increasingly deteriorating weather and requiring mixed climbing. After eight days, Chad and Dylan finally reached the summit, right before a lightning storm hit. The way down was no less challenging with diminishing food supplies and by the end of the climb, Dylan lost over 30 pounds and Chad over 20.

This was a transformative climb and one of the most significant adventures for both climbers.

    Well... that sounds rather 'sporting.'

  13. Just a note. I don't think it is possible to truly do Meru totally independently. The guides/porters we had to take basically took our stuff up until it got a little steep and we were on our own. They, on the other hand, were still on the clock. ;)

Maybe things have changed up there, but it is a big source of revenue (climbing) and Tanzania hates to lose out on one red nickel of it.

  14. Anyone have any recommendations for a 28 lb 16 month old? He's already outgrown his 'little' 10 foot wall and I want to start taking him to the gym to get some longer routes in with mom and dad. There are only a couple that seem to be for the 25-40 lb class, so I might just have to travel around and see if I can find any in stock anywhere and try them out...

  15. Booohooo. Petraus will retire as a 4-star general. They make more in retirement than I can imagine one might be payed to 'sit-on-ass.'

In the Army, infidelity is a crime. Guess GMAIL was NOT the preferred technique for a clandestine (fuck, head of the CIA) to use for something so capable of travesty.

Book will be a best seller, he got his rocks off and he will retire rich as shit. Sounds like he won out after all.
