Have you seen Mountain Hardware Trango Turn to Goo
ASmith replied to ASmith's topic in The Gear Critic
No mildew, nothing was, or got wet, or has any color other than some of the coating has turned a brownish color and you can see where some of the coating appears to be peeling and leaving pieces but none of it appears to be coming completely off of the fabric. Kind of like peeling skin stuck to the goo. Just a total mess. Called MH, they say 2 month wait for any warrantee work. -
I have a three year old MH Trango 3.1 with 5 days on it in the Alaska range. I unpacked it today from dry storage in prep for a trip and upon opening the plastic crate I noticed a really strong smell. The rainfly, or more specifically, the coating on the underneath side of the rain fly has turned to a thick, gooey, sticky mess. When you touch it your fingers real for hours and it is hard to even wash off anything it touches. Some of it has transferred onto the ground sheet as well as the inside of the stuff sac. Anyone have any idea or heard of this before?

Just as an update for folks looking for sizing help. I use 44.5 in all of LS running shoes and 10.5 (44.5) in Asics runners. In Asics the 11 (45) are too big. I use a 44 Nepal Evo. Using a SW liner, SW mountaineering sock and orthothodic, I stared with a 43 Spantik and went to a 43.4, 44 and ended up going all the way up to a Spantik 45 and having them cooked and fitted by a boot fitter in Redmond's bike and ski shop (forget the name Dane knows them). I used them on 3 routes on Rainier in a weeks time. They started off great but by the end of the week they were loose and sloppy so I sold the 45 and went back down to the 44.5 in the Spantik and stayed in the 45 in the Oly Mons. So for a 10.5 Ascis and 44.5 LS runner wearer a 44 or 44.5 will be perfect depending on sock and footbed. I have a pair of brand new never worn LS Nuptse's in 44.5 if anyone wants them. allen(at)Livinginswflorida(dot)com

I recently took both stoves, one for drinks, one for food, up Rainier for 5 days for three people and by day three we were doing everything with only the Reactor as it was just so much more efficient and faster. The Reactor was even melting water for the 2 tents next door at 3:1 of what their white gas stove was doing. I have used mine in my Katium 3GT vestibule several times using common sense and venting. I was always more concerned with the rising heat melting the tent fabric.

Summit Climb: I'm looking for personal knowledge, experiences, or what you may have heard or know about the company Summit Climb. I see there trips are about half price of that of other International Climbing companies and when I ask why I was told "because others simply profit too much". So I'm reaching out to all of you to see what you may be able to enlighten me. Feel free to send me a pm or email to allen(at)livinginswflorida(dot)com.

I just returned from Rainier and used my Hilli Kaitum 3GT http://www.hilleberg.com/home/products/kaitum/kaitum3gt.php. Out of our group of 10 or so tents this tent was the envy. When the weather was bad, and rain on the lower mountain and the Bibles, BD's, and MH's had water in them, all our gear was totally dry with more than amble room for a complete dug in kitchen in one end. When two tents blew away in 70+mph winds on the upper mountain mine had no problem. One minute, and one step, pitch of both the inner and the outer at the same time and then if you want to, or need to sleep 5 or more, just use the ground sheet (which covers the entire outer footprint vestibules and all, and you can accommodate I would estimate 8-10 or a group shelter.

Your Experience w/Mont Bell UL SS Down Hugger Bags
ASmith replied to ASmith's topic in The Gear Critic
I know the new UL SS versions the regular six is now 6' now instead of the previous 5'-10" model so a regular fits up to 6' like most manufactures. I looking at a UL SS #1 as compared to my FF Swift & Swallow and it has so much more room but it seems like the loft in the baffles are thin as I can see thru the bag, so Im questioning the temp rating. -
Looking for actual experiences, performance, thoughts and where-with-all regarding these bags.

I live in Florida. My son just receive, by complete surprise, a notice to appear in King Country for a trespass hearing so I need a referral for an attorney for a minor criminal matter involving an alleged back country trespass which has been fabricated. Is there any good attorneys on this board or someone that you can refer me too. Please email Allen@Livinginswflorida.com or call 239-989-1106

Thats what is so great about living you can choose to do with our time what we want and be whatever we want? Although I have to admit, I fail to see why anyone would want to live a life of complacency and mediocracy when one can, with little effort, do so much more. Why choose to have a life not fully experienced or of little insignificance or to simply exist? Ah yes... your choice. Done

Easily done, blue-blood, for even less, and with style and comfort. Smart folks adapt to their means." So you are already condemning yourself with complacency and planning a life of mediocracy when you can do and have anything you want? Smart folks don't think, talk, and accept small when all it takes is an proper perspective, attitude, and effort to go big!
