  1. Thanks for the detailed info, Dane! I am thinking the Baruntse may be my ticket for a boot for Rainier in winter and moderate technical in Alaska next June.
  2. I emailed Sportiva about the overall size and they said: "The Spantik is going to be warmer and with a lower volume fit for a more technical boot. The Spantik and the Baruntse overall have the same masses, so they are overall the same size. They both have the same outsole, so they are equally "hikeable. The Baruntse is going to be lighter than the Spantik."
  3. Looks like some adventurous rock in there - thanks for posting!
  4. Nice crack! Seriously though, your TR really makes me want to get up there! What is the cost of the helicopter flight?
  5. Nice!!! I am interested in the electronica song titles...
  6. Another big one off your list. Nice Matt!
  7. I am posting this for a friend who is experiencing a delay in registering his username. His name is Ben and can be reached at benjamindonbell@yahoo.com. He wants to do either of these two routes this weekend leaving on Friday PM or Saturday AM...
  8. the tooth and rock shoes found
  9. The road is gated at the Eldorado TH because of a slide further up. If you are getting on Eldo this won't affect you...
  10. Looks like I posted my question in the right place - Thanks for the info!
  11. Anybody have opinions on using rechargeables in headlamps in cooler weather? How is battery life and are there certain brands/types that are better than others? What inspired this Q was reading a little about this battery that was linked from the Mazama Club website: Amazon
  12. Thanks again!!
  13. Wow, great answers - thanks! Karhu Guides are at the top of the list so far. Any opinions on ski length?? Would going a little shorter than my alpine skis help with downhill maneuverability or do I want the "skating" ability of going a little longer??
  14. Does anyone here have any insight on the best way to travel between peaks/camps in the Alaska Range? I am looking at some Karhu XCD's mounted with climbing boot compatible bindings. I would assume that skis are better than snowshoes. Any other ideas - what have you used??
  15. Mice TR Matt - Way to get on it!!
  16. http://chadbeeman.blogspot.com/ Simple but hopefully you will enjoy the pics from local areas!
  17. After ascending the north ridge of Sherpa Peak last Fall just before the snow started, I lost my camera somewhere in the first 1000' of descent down the S (maybe more SE) gully. It is a black Samsung in a red neoporene pouch about the size of your hand. Can offer reward of beer or cash!!
  18. Love your pics...thanks!!!

  20. Trip: Dragontail Peak - Variation of Triple Couloirs Date: 3/18/2007 Trip Report: Here's a link for anyone wondering about Dragontail.......obviously until it warms a little, there won't be any real ice.....we slept up top w/o sleeping bags......coldest night of my life! We climbed a couple pitches towards the second before it got too time consuming (ice-glazed rock) for me, hence the rappel pic, so went this route that we saw from the lake. Fun but not as hard as it looks. http://picasaweb.google.com/ChadBeeman/TripleCouloirsDragontailPeak Gear Notes: mostly rock...couple cams, bugaboos, nuts Approach Notes: Road closed, snowshoes helpful
  21. So, about a year ago I moved back to the Seattle area......I have climbed Baker, Rainier, Maude and others in the last year. I am 25, have been climbing for about 10 years though I want to be much farther along. I am experienced on rock and ice and am comfortable leading up many moderate (low to mid-class) climbs plus glacier travel. Anyone with similar or better experience that needs someone (or knows of a better way to meet people) to go climbing with on the weekends and holidays, hit me up! I have a vehicle and of course gear. I'm also looking to make Wrangell-St. Elias Nat. Park in the near future. And I also mt. bike and kayak!! Too really be specific, in 2007 i would like to complete Ptarmigan Ridge-Rainier, Shuksan's North Face, Forbidden Peaks ridges, Index routes, any ice I can find this winter and the Ski to Sea race!!! I'll be gone these next two weekends but will be available Feb. 9th-11th! chad_t_beeman@yahoo.com
