  1. I know that there will be some posters being sold at the Sausage Fest in Seattle this Sunday (http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/920847/Re_CC_com_SausageFest_09_Slide). Also, there will be posters being sold at Edgeworks Climbing Gym and Pro Mtn Sports after this time. We decided to do a limited 200 poster printing, so the posters might go quite quickly! If they really fly out the window and there is continued interest in the fundraising aspect of it, we might do a second printing. But if not, they will probably be available starting sometime in 2010 in NCNP Visitor centers. Porter has more details on where the posters will be distributed, as I have probably missed some. -Steph
  2. Sort of a small scale of this.... http://blog.silive.com/weather/2008/12/versoix-ice-storm.bmp
  3. When autumn arrives in the Enchantments, the basin turns golden as the Alpine Larch trees prepare to shed their needles. This is a spectacular scene like no other. Yesterday I hiked through the Enchantments (Snow Lakes TH - Nada Creek Route - Tamarack Meadows - Prusik Pass - Enchantment Basin - Snow Lakes TH). The larches were spectacular, so I decided to create a "Larch Tree Trip Report" on my website: http://sites.google.com/site/stephabegg/home/tripreports/washington/northcascades/larches A couple of photos: Flaming larches in Tamarack Meadows below North side of Temple Ridge: Remnants of Ice Storm, Yellow Larches, and Prusik Peak: Again, the link to my "Larch Tree Trip Report" on my website: http://sites.google.com/site/stephabegg/home/tripreports/washington/northcascades/larches
  4. I've not shut the door on making the poster a fundraiser, since that is a great way to get awareness for the WCC project to buy the Lower Town Wall. I am not selling through the NPS INSTEAD of the fundraiser, it was just that they had expressed interest, so I was letting everyone know that the poster would be distributed there in the future, as at the time it was becoming clear to Porter and I that printing/distributing the posters ourselves was WAY too much of a job for us to do ourselves. But, it seems there are others in the cc.com community who could help out with printing and distributing the poster, so hopefully the fundraiser can go ahead as planned. It'd be nice to do the initial run of these posters as a "grass-roots" operation as you mentioned. I will make sure this is okay with my contact at the NPS, but they had expressed interest that was independent of the fundraiser, so I don't think it will be an issue. Ideally we can do a 100-200 poster run for the fundraiser, and get some of these posters out there soon!
  5. Probably not...but they are a good way to procrastinate.....
  6. How about bumper sticker fundraiser.... (Never printed this one) (I'm the only car running around Seattle with this one)

  8. Sorry everyone, it just turned into too big a job to get the posters printed and distributed. The NPS has expressed some interest, so ideally they will be printing some at some undefined point in time. Or, if anyone is interested in taking on the onerous task of printing, collecting money, distributing the posters, etc, let me know! It'd be nice if all those North Cascades enthusiasts out there can get one for their walls, and support the WCC at the same time. -Steph
  9. I'd be very interested in having these posters sold at the visitor centers, as they'd be a popular item I'm sure. I'm not sure who I'd go about contacting, but I was sort of hoping some of the people there might be tuned into cc.com enough to spread the idea to the right people to see if it is a possibility.... Until then, though, it'd be nice to find a good printer to get some nice copies distributed to those who have expressed interest (and to raise some funds too for WCC, of course). It could take awhile to get the park service involved, but I hope that is a future possibility. -Steph
  10. FUNDRAISER FOR A GREAT CAUSE: Okay, here's the deal on the poster. CC.com has decided to take advantage of this opportunity to raise some money for the Washington Climber's Coalition to buy the Lower Town Wall at Index, which has been threatened with closure. It'd be such a shame for some of the best climbing in WA (Godzilla, City Park, Thin Fingers,.....) to be quarried in the future, and who better to forever preserve the wall than us climbers! Selling this poster is a good way to support the cause and show we care about protecting the climbing areas in our state. Every little bit helps. For details on the plight of the Lower Town Wall, see the WCC website: http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/Current/Town.htm HOW TO PAY FOR THE POSTER: We are in the process of setting up a PayPal account where people can prepay for the poster. The price will be by donation, with proceeds going to WCC. Only a small cut of the proceeds will be taken to cover the creation of the poster, so a bulk of the proceeds will go to WCC, which I hope will encourage climbers to donate whatever they please to this fundraiser. Every little bit helps. HOW TO GET YOUR POSTER: Jim Nelson at Pro Mountain Sports in Seattle has offered his shop to be the pick-up place for people in the Seattle-based area. For those who do not live near Seattle, we will offer shipping for an additional cost. It would be quite the job to ship to everyone, so hopefully those who live in Seattle will take advantage of the free pick up at his shop. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS: Porter will probably post more details soon, but start getting the word out of this fundraiser if you can. Thanks. -Steph
  11. The resolution of the image will look good at 18x24 (based on a clipping of the poster I got printed as an 8x10 today, looks good!), but probably shouldn't push it to 36" unless I can get ahold of a higher-resolution image....
  12. It might look good as a 18x24, too, which is another standard size....
  13. See the lines of sight map I posted on the first page of this thread. I think anything to the right of baker has to be in line with San Juans (Orcas Is is highpoint) or Vancouver Island. I'm unsure of if it is Orcas or Van Is....anyone for sure on it?
  14. +1 Jake, want to start making an order list?....
  15. Yes, for sure, thanks Jake! I was beginning to get overwhelmed with the interest level in this poster, and defintely want to make it available to anyone who wants it for their wall. However, with my grad school studies (alternating between a statistics text book and a topo map right now...), I really don't have the time to put into distributing it, so your help would be great and cc.com is a great place to do it. I have formatted it for a 16x20 size, and will keep editing it until the comments die down, and then it is all ready to go. A great Christmas present... -Steph
  16. In that line of thought, I've marked yellow circles on peaks I might like to add labels to since they seem to be emphasized. ANyone care to take a gander at what they are? -Steph
  17. In the spirit of the original poster, I changed the title of the poster. I've kept the NCNP boundary in for now, but it can easily be removed....
  18. Lowell - nice beta for the corrections....now, for that NCNP boundary, is that marked on your version? I think for the most part it is correct on my poster.
  19. Thanks for posting that, Lowell. I'm curious to know how many of those are still out there - I couldn't find any on ebay, if that's any indication of their scarceness. I see they mislabelled Terror (they have the label above W McMillan and Inspiration, a mistake I was made aware of in my first poster edition, but since corrected). It's time for a new edition for all the new North Cascades climbers out there, don't you think!
  20. Got it, DonnV beat you to it...
  21. There's been a lot of interest so far in making a poster out of this. I am still in the process of tweaking some of the details (peak locations, text size, etc). People have been helpful in pointing out some mistakes and making suggestions on peaks to add, etc. Until then, the annoying watermark (sorry!) will remain at the bottom... I'm trying to decide between 11x14 size and 16x20 size for anyone interested in printing it into a poster. Any preferences? It matters on how big I make the text.
  22. When I came across Heinrich's illustration, I thought it would make a great poster, so I went searching to find if I could purchase one. I didn't find it anywhere, and figured I'd like it labeled anyway, so went about making my own....maybe the park service could be interested in this more extensively-labeled version...? (I've posted a reduced-size version, so if anyone is interested in making a poster out of it, email me for the full-sized version.)
  23. Fixed now, thanks. You're welcome. I enjoy putting these things together, and its nice when others can find these efforts useful.
  24. You're right...lines of sight confirm it, as Orcas would be to the right of Baker.
  25. My final summer project before classes start back up tomorrow.... Due to popularity of this poster, cc.com has decided to turn this into a fundraiser to raise money for the Washington Climber's Coalition to save the Lower Town Wall at Index, which has been threatened with closure. Read more about that at the WCC website: http://www.washingtonclimbers.org/Current/Town.htm Details on supporting this fundraiser by buying this poster will be posted in this forum. Link to larger image (although with annoying watermark until I guage interest in making some posters to distribute). I had some fun making this labeled illustration of the major peaks in North Cascades National Park. If anyone notices mislabelled peaks, let me know! I used an illustration by Heinrich Berann (1915-1999), father of the modern panorama map. Berann was known for his unorthodox habits of landscape manipulation, such as rotating mountains, widening valleys, and vertically exaggerating features. Berann painted four panoramas for the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) that demonstrated his genius for landscape visualization: North Cascades National Park (1987), Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and finally Mt. McKinley National Park (1994). His work is now in the public domain and can be found here.
