  1. I have to admit I had a really bad experience with the mountain shop....sorry kioti...this was about a year+ ago.

They sold my friend a 60m beal rope that wasn't even 50m, it was cut some weird length.....when she tried to bring it back (upon realizing it was short) they refused to take it back. They refused to contact the manager because he was probaly "eating dinner". They (and by they I mean one guy) proceeded to YELL that climbing is an inherently dangerous sport and to deal with it. They said she should have measured the rope after buying it. She was a newbe when she made the purchase and assumed when you by a rope marked 60m that it will be just that.

Needless to say it was the wort customer experience I have ever heard of....and by the way I was the one who ended up finding out that the rope was short during a rappel....

  2. Carolyn,

Thanks for the enlightening and engaging discourse on this subject. People can always agree or disagree based on their own observations or experiences. For me, your points strike powerful chords, bringing issues to the surface that often remain in the subtext of society's messages.

Way to put yourself out there regarding something so important to you.

    I totally agree!

turn to climbing....a better release for all the angst

  4. well, it depends if you see yourself smoking another cig. in the near future.

I quit a couple years ago and I've slipped up a couple of times and have felt awful about it. (Its good that you feel bad about it....when you stop caring is when you'll start smoking again!)I'd feel worse about skipping the gym!

  5. seen it 99,000,000 times today. PDX drivers don't have a clue what to do in the snow.

That is for sure. I drove from Lake Oswego to Vancouver and it was crazy. People out in there little rear wheel drive sport cars.....I mean what is soooo important you have to leave your house and drive somewhere in you 40K car? WTF.

BTW I had no problem driving around in my rear wheel drive truck!

  6. Actually being able to "work from home" allows me to also "work from Ouray" or "work from beacon" or "work from the sawtooths" or anywhere else I might be. So suddenly 4 weeks of paid vacation doesn't seem like such a small amount :D

    Yeah, no fair! :)

  7. SO the past few weekends that I've been at Smith all I see are people hauling around stick clips. Now I guess I can see a newbie using one to clip the first bolt....I was guilty of that one time! But when you use it to clip the second....third....forth...bolt! I saw some guy hauling it up with him and clip the anchors! I can see working on projects but I don't think these peeps were.
