Yep, it's a big 'ol pickle ain't it? Bold is good. Sheer lunacy is not.

that's rich coming from someone who otherwise stigmatizes transfer recipients. Paying people a living wage is certainly more valorizing and conducive to positive dynamics toward self-sustenance than handing out welfare. C'mon j_b, there has to be an upside here somewhere. Kojak? Which rung is that? The homeless rung? 'Cause we sure got plenty of thems! Or is that the forclosed/underwater rung? Check. Or is that the 15-year old working before, during, and after school hours (they do still have school hours, right?) to provide a first, second, or hopefully third household income rung?

Willful ignorance of the historical record of the Right's failed economic policies does not constitute a "viewpoint". Nor does Cain's response to decades of flat-tax debunking and critique (as if the Pizza Plan were something new!) constitute a "discussion". The comparison with climate change denialism is quite apt.

The financial elite, tax kooks, the Addams Family of think tanks, and a media that's lost it's stomach for doing actual journalism hardly constitutes a "vast swath" of anything other than an ongoing influence that's completely out of proportion to its proven ability to deliver positive results. Hello?

The contempt is based on the actual results of the implementation of the policies these folks have been advocating for 40 years. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

As if Cain, Bachmann, Trump, Gramm, Palin, Norquist, Koch et al. deserve anything but the contempt of concerned, rational people? That anyone, much less journalists, takes this crap seriously blows my mind. If the last few years has taught us anything about American conservatism in its current form, it's that you don't negotiate with terrorists.

There are no simple answers. The Pizza Plan (shifting the tax burden onto those least able to bear it) is a twisted insult, the "President Trump" of policy proposals and par for the course for the Insane Clown Caucus that the GOP has become. If you're so clueless as you sound, start by closing the loopholes that are allowing individuals and companies to avoid and evade the existing rates, not lowering their taxes by 30% or more! Do you need a fucking map?

Well hmmmm, let's see, as far as a counter-proposal to the Pizza Plan goes, let's start with taxing the rich more and the poor and working class less. It's like the exact opposite and about as concrete. But hey, when did criticizing an idiotic proposal put forward by a presidential candidate require counter-proposals by ordinary citizens? There's no shortage of work on progressive taxation and what's likely to help in an economy like this, don't expect me to do your homework. Next up: taking over the banks and running them as public utilities.

"McCain calls U.S. economy 'fundamentally sound' on same day Lehman Brothers declared bankrupt" LOLZ dimwits McCain's chief economic advisor in 2008: This is a mental recession. America is a nation of whiners. 2012: 999!

Of course, we all are. Nevertheless, he was elected by mobilizing people on a message of profound, systemic change. As in, that's what the electorate wanted and that's what they voted for. I don't have a problem with what Obama says, I have a problem with what he does. Don't fault people for voting for a lesser evil candidate that appeals to their better natures. There is a huge difference between using rhetoric that appeals to the need to solve problems and to people's desire for a better and brighter future and someone putting forward a tax plan that every expert between here and kingdom come and anybody with half a brain can see is a Complete Fucking Disaster but has a catchy title and is easy for hydrocephalics to remember. How did this thread become about Obama, anyway? The US is blowing and capitalism is failing quite spectacularly under its own steam without any help from me, in case you didn't notice. Don't blame the messenger. In fact, if those in power had done more listening and less apoplectic boogeymanning of "commies" and "luddites", and "terrorist sympathizers", we'd be in a far better spot than we are now. Try shutting the fuck up and listening once in a while.

Wait, tell me again why it's bullshit to think that we're capable as a society to make things better and that elected representatives have a role to play in the process? 'Cause if that's the kind of headspace you're in, you should seek psychiatric help and stop listening to that silly music.

Have to give it to him, it's a brilliant strategy when your target market is mostly illiterate.
