  1. It helps facilitate a catch with a two man team while traveling on glaciers. I do believe you would carry a shorter rope to extract. Never done it but I think the idea is to help catch a fall in a two man team.
  2. Sounds like you are on the right track. If you already have a ski that is 74 underfoot I would definitely look for one in the 88-95 range. Lou Dawson has some real good reviews on skis on his web site wildsnow. I think a ski in that range would really complement your current ski which falls more into the ski mountaineering catagory.
  3. I second the Siberian Huskies. My wife and I have two of them and they are great. They are also great with our daughter. The only negative is that they tend to run off and should generally be kept on a leash. During the summer I usually have them on a leash but while skiing I take them off on the downhill. They do great in the snow and handle the heat fairly well. We live in Lewiston were it gets well over a 100. Although there energy levels definitely increase in the winter.
  4. Couloir, I am not super familiar with the names of all the terrain on Hood so I am not real sure were the Castle Crags are - sorry. A lot of my runout was above the crater. I traversed the crater a little until I got to a steeper section (at least I think it was) and skied down the obvious little chute between the rocks that are just climbers left of the crater. I thought I had a picture of the route I took but I could not find it last night. I ended up skiing just right (or climbes left) of the crater and had a pretty safe runout through the steepest section of the run. I hope that makes sense - sorry I do not have a picture of the route to show.
  5. Thank you. I look forward to seeing them.
  6. I think that may be me. I skied off the summit on Saturday around 11:00 down the West Crater (old chute) route. It was a fun ride but really icy. Jeremy - my e-mail address is jrmycarr@yahoo.com
  7. Hi, My wife lost her grivel black third tool on Hood Saturday May 12. Please pm me if anyone finds it. Thank you.
  8. Thanks for the input. I am thinking of doing it this weekend, although I will probably come down via the sunshine route.
  9. I was wondering if anyone has climbed this in the last couple of weeks and what the route was like. Thanks for the input.
