  1. Let's see, how to phrase this without invoking the controversial ice tool / alpine tool dichotomy ... I am looking for some tools to use on New England ice falls and on alpine routes out here later in the year. I would like to get Grivel Alp Wings, Charlet Moser Quarks, BD Cobras, or some other fancy tool. (However I would consider BD Rages, the bent shaft Prophet, Viper, or Axar, etc.) I am considering getting some Alp Wings for $100 each. Please make me an offer if you have something you're even thinking about selling ...

  2. I work at landscaping and construction. I have been suffering a little bit of pain in my left hand for a few weeks. I couldn't pull down on it without pain, and my grip strength and range of motion were compromised. But it was never so bad that I needed immediate attention. I was planning on having it looked at on October 1st when my medical insurance coverage resumes. wazzup.gif A few days ago, in a spirited game of foosball, I lost myself to the game and in a moment of passion, snapped something in my left wrist. It hurt. I am trying to figure out if I had earlier broken my scaphoid bone or if I have just recently severed the extensor pollicis brevis tendon, the tendon that forms the lower part of the "anatomical snuff box". I say this because the anatomical snuff box on my left hand is missing. That is, I can no longer form the snuffbox with my left hand, even with my thumb extended. So it's like the tendon has snapped, or stretched out to form some much weaker version of its former self. And yet, just sitting here, there's no pain. But if I press on the scaphoid bone, it hurts like a mother. I don't know if the tendon problem would come along with the bone problem. The doctor looked at it really quickly and told me to get an MRI to have a look at the tendon. Well, that would cost 500-600 dollars if I went in before October 1st. I'd prefer to rely on the wisdom, experience, and quackery found on cc.com for a diagnosis. Has anyone had any experience with tendinitis (or worse) in this tendon, or else broken a scaphiod bone? I would like to get this fixed up soon, if that's possible, so I can climb in New Hampshire this fall ...

  3. I've heard that you can knot thin (mammut 8mm) spectra using a 2x fishermans, but im not about to start cutting up mine to try it. anyone done this?

you'd want to make that a triple fisherman's for spectra / dyneema, I think.

  4. got any old or on verge of old 3-pin x-c country ski shoes or boots, us size 13? (12.5 might do it as well) I'm thinking 20-30 dollar range and have low standards. Will pick up. If you have slightly nicer units I will consider as well. Also interested in a set of wired BD stoppers, and hexcentrics, reasonably priced. Oh, and quickdraws. And a size Large Terraplane pack by Dana Design. PM me please. Must flee the Metropolis. Thanks.

  5. the ones you want are species Psilocybe stuntzii; a.k.a. blue ringers. This species was classified by and named after a U of W professor because they were found growing on UW campus near a biology building(?). After you pick them they turn blue as the psilocybin is exposed to the air. They have a distinctive blue ring. Do not bother harvesting Amanitas. The ones that grow in PNW plentifully are blue ringers. Look on recently put down (fresh sod) sub-urban or ex-urban lawns. Pictures are available online. I suppose you could hunt around in cow pastures for Psilocybe semelanciata (Liberty Bells, or Liberty Caps) but I am not as familiar with that species. You should focus your (obviously abundant) energies on P. stuntzii since they are plentiful and easy to classify. Oh, and .... you need to eat a lot of em.
