I'm very much looking forward to my second first experience
Now, I just need to do some house cleaning and find some time in my schedule. I hate waiting for things...slow progress isn't my style....if I'm going to learn to do something, I like to jump in and do it, not wait and go at a slow pace. My mistake the first time was picking people whom I thought I knew and putting my trust in them. Hell, I was only 16 though. I'm older and smarter now
I've learned so much already...now, I need to go shopping, finish my second class at the gym, and see who I can drag out to Exit 38 with me in the next few weeks.

ok...here's a question for the lasses...
How many of you have introduced a guy to climbing???
Does it count if you haven't been yourself yet but are in the process of getting ready and talk a guy into learning with you? Do I get a point for that? Hmmm?

Once again I am forced to recall ....I've done my part.
Okay....NOW I am really scared. Bug, I met you the other night and you didn't seem that bad...I mean....apparently you have some chaeuvanistic views, but that just comes with your generation....and Hell, they're probably taken from your own experiences! But its a bad idea to apply these views to all girls, and I'm sure you don't do that so you're all right in my book
Seriously though, its not considered a 'date' to just go climbing with someone is it? I mean....the ratio is much greater than I initially thought...about 20:1. So my chances of only going climbing with girls is slim...plus I'd miss the chance to meet some great (male) climbers and cheat myself out of learning from them! Sheesh...things aren't really as messy as you claim, are they? I just wanna learn...and if I meet somebody I'm attracted to in the process, great...we have something in common. I'm confused.

Canoe....erm, don't have one but I'm in the market for a kayak. Sometimes the UW has ones you can demo for cheap.....sounds like an awesome weekend! Hope you get good weather. I heard there are some good climbs along Thunderhead Trail as well.....are ya climbin? eh?

hahahahaha....obviously they had you snowed....
So should I changed my name to the SnowedByrd?

But the finger is MINE! to me, thats grosser than gross...especially when the doctor tried to pop it back into place while telling me I had ripped the ligament out of the bone. I mean, look at that angle! I wonder if his jaw ever healed? That IS a wrinkly foot though...
Who does/did it belong to? It looks as if it was kept on ice!

I was at the Pub Club last night and everyone I met was super kewl. I woud feel comfortable going with anyone there. I sat down and observed for a little while before making myself known and I was really impressed with the amount of knowledge flowing along with the beer. I did feel bad about not partaking in the PBR but hey, I DO have standards. Next time though. No, really, you guys are great

hey...I eventually wander away from my desk during the day. Someone posted that while I was away. Thanks!

Weenie Roast! Who needs testicles anyways? Just another place to get hurt by an angry woman!
-
When and where is the next one? I don't see any plans for one in the Events Forum yet.
-
Like I said, a regular weenie roast
Are there many girls that climb?
-
Of every 10 climbers, how many would you say are women? Its like a weenie roast!
-
This is aimed more towards the girlies than the boys...no offense. Girls, how do you find a climbing partner? Are you actually comfortable just going to that forum and asking someone or responding to someone whom you don't know? How do you get to know the person and know that they're safe? I mean, you are basically putting your life in their hands, in more than one way. I know I sound like a moron here, but I'm new to climbing and also the culture that goes along with it, so please bare with my lack of social skills here until I have been properly initiated. I want to climb outdoors eventually and I don't know anyone in the area that climbs, or who would be willing to go along with a beginner and deal with all the issues that go with that. Oh, yes, I have heard about the Pub Crawls....
Thanks for your patience

You did NOT say Hummer, did you? You forgot to mention the tax credit and the necessity to own your own oil company. How cna you ACTUALLY go out into the beautiful outdoors and own one of those things? Did you NOT know that every mile you drive kills a tree? Sheesh! You must climb 'coz it makes u look kewl and its the hip thing ot do at the mo' eh boyo?

Subies Rock....literally. These things will go over anything. The All Wheel drive is great for the icey roads, the higher ground clearance will take you off road (with the exception of literally bouldering with your car) and there is as much room as an Exploder, with better gas mileage and loads of little nooks and crannies to store small things. I would recommend a wagon if you are taller than 5 ft 10, as I have a Forester and it fits me perfectly (I'm all of 5'4.)
You can't go wrong with a ROO.
-
Okay...so what if you are only 5'4, all legs and no torso? Any recommendations? I tried a few different junior sizes but the proportions and balance seemed off. Need something that will fit around/over boobs but not too heavy. The Black Diamonds were uncomfy from the get go.

Thanks for all the advice...I've joined a climbing gym and booked a beginners trip with the Cascade Mountain Guides. If we keep having weather like we've been having, the economy will collapse and society will lapse into the dark ages! WOW! Somebody told me that if they don't have to pull you out with a helicopter or it isn't life threatening, then it's minor...if thats the case, that fall was minor

speaking of born in AZ...I'm even more authentic than you are Phoenix boy...good old Casa Grande...ever go to Ochoas? La Comida es muy bueno alla! If you're in Seattle, try Beso Del Sol...and if you go up on the Sammamish Plateau (Issaquah), try La Casita. The VERY best! Me gusta la Sangria!

I started to learn to climb in the SW a few years ago doing some bouldering etc and had a really bad fall doing a climb I had no business doing, although I didn't have enough experience at the time to know that. Now that I'm older and wiser and live in the NW, I'd like to start over. I guess my question is, where do I start? What gear should I buy to start out, how do I get exposure (climb), and how do I let go of my fear? I fell 20 feet, broke an ankle, and was suspended 300 feet in the air upside down for about 20 minutes against a rock face cliff. I am determined though so that's got to count for something. I made a promise to a friend of mine that I would go with him one day and I always keep my promises. Any advice or experiences you would like to share with me would be very much appreciated.
just starting out
