  1. I think the hunting story is just a cover up for what really happened...

Lord Cheney tried to turn the good Jedi Harry to the Dark Side. Jedi Harry refused and a great battle ensued.

... but Good Jedi Harry was no match for Lord Cheney and his minions...and was shot in the end.

  2. I'd move.

Yeah, i'd second that. I tried the PNW thing from '00 to '02 and I was "off keel" after that first winter ,for sure. My bro has lived up there for ten years and he loves the weather and has no effect on him. Hits some and misses others.

Within a week of moving back to CO, the winter blues were gone and have never returned. Cured by sunshine.

If you are one of those hit hard by it then you should really think about living elsewhere... in the sun.

  3. cjz still trying to get people all crazy and riled up???? fuck dude, you need to get laid or smoke a bowl or something...

    take your own medicine, dude.

How many threads have you asked to be deleted cuz you don't see them as worthy in the past week? I've come across 3 but I read about 2% of this site. jackoff.gif

  4. he promised himself that he'd never return to the mountains?

I don't now if that was him or not but I think most alpine climbers have very short term memories of suffering/loss to the point of a flaw. No matter how bad it was, it always seems that in a year or so the mountains pull you back.

  5. Do you need to enter a lottery to kayak down the salmon?

The lottery is an option during the high use period from late may to september 3rd and you do need a permit to launch. After and before those dates it is first come first serve. They open that up in Oct the previous year to launch. Or you can do what I have done and just wait til summer and pick up cancelled permits. The later in the season ,the easier it is to pick up a permit.

If you are going to climb in the lower canyon then after Sept 3rd is the only good option because before the 3rd you are only allowed 1 night after you cross a certain point.

  6. If you ever look into the 'expedition' type rafting/kayaking then check out the middle fork of the salmon in idaho. The last 25 miles has more untapped rock than you can shake a stick at. Only way to access it is via raft. No trails in the lower canyon. A climbing /fly fishing buddy and I have taken 2 trips down there and there is some great rock down there. The best plan would be to go in september when the camping restrictions are lifted for the lower section too. The catch is you gotta have damn good low water reading skills and row class IV.

  7. " Despite his late introduction to the sport, Shimer is a dedicated, almost maniacal convert. Bear in mind, this is a guy who borrowed $21,000 from a friend to buy a used bobsled-and then convinced his dad to take out a second mortgage so that he could repay the first loan. And this is a guy who dumped a girlfriend in favor of the sport. "I mean, I loved her," he says. "But I really love bobsledding." "

  8. TB, The mp.com site is not really new. climbingboulder.com, climbingmoab.com and many other very popular sister sites like these have all been pulled under this one roof now. I'm sure they are running on their own server which is allot more than $20 a month. Also, these guys have donated allot of their time, energy and technical skills to a good cause. Let them have a beer and pizza on me, ya know? Plus, even if they did make money on the advertising and contributions ...who cares? Why is that bad? Do you piss on the authors of paper guidebooks too for all of their hard work and slight them for profits of their labor?

  9. Notice the Google ads are right in the middle of the page?

Some are for the community and most are for the money.

dude, these guys are all volunteers and saved a valuable resource from oblivion. I even put up a thread about doing a paypal donation link for users like this site does and they shot me down. it's a great colorado(and beyond) resource done by climbers for climbers.

As the link shows, they are adding in stuff for the PNW. It's resource that is only as good as it's contributors. Look through the Colorado section to see what's possible...rock, ice, alpine beta and pics in a pretty organized format.

Dog them for paying the bills if you want, ya know? Would you feel better if these guys just paid for it all out of there own personal pockets?

Also, it's never going to replace CC.com because rule#1 is clearly stated when posting: "Don't be a Jerk".
