    kid training?

cheam, why did you have a coach if you didn't want to get pushed? i agree that playing is the best way for kids (and adults) to improve, especially in a gym setting. simply climbing more with a focus on good technique goes a long ways. as long as the overall theme is to have fun. adding a twist to normal climbing that makes them think about what they're doing and help improve a technique or strength can be fun too. for example: find a section of wall and traverse it. then traverse it with only their left and and agin with only the right. this will build contact strength and learn to control the swing of a dynamic move without the intimmidation of a full-on dyno. cheam was on a competitive climbing team...i climbed alot with a kid who took nationals, and he too burned out...

big mistake buddy but for the record no My honest sugestion as a MOM is to ask your mom to contact the Mounties for you. they have great classes to teach you how to climb trad and Mountians with groups so you will not be in danger of falling prey to some kind of pedifile. 99% of the people i have met on cc.com have been cool. but not all of them. you need to stay in groups and stay safe. You have MANY MANY years of climbing in front of you. there is no reason to push this to hard to fast. have you read freedom of the hills? if not pick it up. Also you will want to pick up some Knot books. I like the ones John Long wrote but then i am deeply in love with him Lots of people on this site have kids. My oldest is 12. it would be good for you to have your parents contact some of the parents on this site. We have kid rope ups where parents bring thier kids to camp and climb. as an adult it is not safe for any of us to contact you or spend time with you with out the full knowldege of you parents and thier participation. Well said Muff...
  6. in my house that's the kind of talk when the parent does the talking and the kid does the eye rolling No...that is the conversation that the wife directs towards the husband... "Dear, we need to talk..."
  7. no...i was actively getting their input...it tends to stick in their brain a little bit better!
  8. already done...we had a loooooong family talk last night...
  9. well fwiw...i did get sick to my stomach...puked all over my ski pants...people were looking at me as i wiped it off with snow and then took off at a dead sprint to check the next lodge...

  16. I was just thinking that...
  17. i remember that...it was terminal gravity if i remember...absolutely horrible...drew was only 1 at the time... Your boy should be skiing pretty soon? Next year-ish, right?
  18. I bawled for over an hour when each of my kids were born.
  19. we could also do a gym day just for introductory purposes as well...
  20. sounds good!
  21. you know, the thing to take from these experiences are how absolutely precious and valuable your child feels to you at that very moment and to REMEMBER that when they are pissing you off later (as every child can take his/her parents to the very edge of patience and beyond!). At least some good will come from these "bad" experiences...
  22. i was not referencing his musical knowledge...just pink in general...
  23. skiing is hella expensive though...jeezus...why couldn't he have chosen something cheaper?? hey, check your pm's...
  24. We ski at Stevens as well, but I only have had spotty service there. when Hikeing in the woods it has always been the radio. Oh, one house rule is, if you can not obey me at home where it is safe, then I can not trust you to obey me in the woods where it is dangerous. So if you do not obey me here, then I will not take you there. it works! I hear you on the obeying/minding...these are good kids, great kids actually...it was an unintentional situation that he made worse by trying to make it better.
  25. Dude, you are so outed as a total freshiez kinda guy, I don't ever want to hear you griping about skiing again. skiing sucks...for the record, i'm a total hack, but i don't want to condemn my kids to hackdom... its too wet to climb locally around here and the kids aren't big on plastic...they go, but mainly to humor me... they LOVE skiing...Droober is racing this year and he says, and i quote, "skiing is the funnest ever...its so much fun to go as fast as i can and everything they are teaching me is to go faster and not wreck bad"...I can hardly keep up with his ass these days... The other thing...he was really touching the other day. He said "Dad, i know you really really love climbing, but i don't like it so much...its ok in the summer when there's no snow and nothing else to do. I don't want you to be mad at me cuz i don't like it as much as you...is that ok??" SO i beat his ass silly...just kidding... I told him...hey, whatever you do, do it as hard as you can but only if you like it not if i like it...
