  1. That is what everyone says to me!
  2. I am of poor folk myself! It is really expensive to get ratings to fly yes, but I make it happen somehow. I live cheap, I am extremely selfish with my money, and I have no life! I actually have to take a break for a while cuz of money reasons...it just happens. The Cessna that I fly, burns about 8-10 gallons and hour. I plan for a 10 gallon fuel burn as a buffer. I flew 4 hours round trip to Boeing Field.....just a little engine...doesn't cruise very fast...100 knots or so. I work at a kickass place where I can talk to pilots all day and I get a good deal on plane usage. Friends with planes are awesome! The owner of the plane I use now is really good to me and rents it out for a great price. And of course, since the company I work for sells fuel, I get a major discount on fuel. Normally it is about $3.10 a gallon but you can shop around for a good deal or a special that someone like Clay Lacy runs at BFI. I got two overnight tiedown fees waived because I bought fuel and kept my plane there. My pro-rated gas price from work is really good, and I probably can only tell you that much cuz it is ridiculious how little I pay. Very fun indeed! I love taking passengers up and watch the look on there face when we land in that little aircraft! So far I have taken some of my family up and a few friends including Ryland, whom posts here occasionally.
  3. Thanks, I'm gonna just roam around and find what looks safe and fun this week (my weekend)...summitted Hood via Hogsback once and there are some good places up the Palmer Snowfield....wanted to try somewhere new...I will stay where it is safe. I wanna come to Smiff during the last week of this month...are you game?
  4. Pictures posted... I'll take anyone flying so long as they pay for the gas! It takes two things to make an airplane fly: Airspeed and MONEY!
  5. I know I should just roam around and find the shit myself, and I will of course.....but does anyone know where on Hood I can perfect my snow traveling skills? Steep, safe places to self-arrest, set up snow pro, and plunge step...seracs to practice traveling through, etc.
  6. We came, we saw, and the FCs kicked our ass! Got to the base of the chimneys and turned back. There still is snow left up higher in the gully and melting like crazy...really wet rock at the start. We decided that with the two of us...we weren't experienced enough to tackle it. Lake Anne is beautiful and glissading the snowfield below was a blast on return. Flight home was interesting as well...transmitter went out near P-town and although I could receive transmissions, I couldn't talk back to Portland Approach frequency...after a brief heart attack and some troubleshooting, I ended up using the jack on the shotgun side and then was able to talk...HOLY SHIT! Flying in Class Bravo Airspace for the first time was nuts!....very busy up there near Sea-tac I'LL BE BACK IN AUGUST! Pictures pending....
  7. Thanks for the info folks. Trying to figure out logistics with the time we will have and the time we will be arriving at the trailhead to Lake Anne. Could split it into two days but would not like to haul a bunch of overnight gear when it can be done in one day. Two days increases the chance of summitting but would be nice to have a light pack. Route finding sounds like the only real challenge, that and gravity. Probably no need for it, but bringing snow pro anyway cuz, yah, just cuz. Guess it is all played by ear....arrival time, how strong we feel, weather, etc. This sounds like a blast and I can't wait....wish us luck!

    Lies

But the fact of the matter is you CHOSE whom you believe. This is trust.....

    Lies

I believe everything that is told to me unless it is dripping with sarcasm... I take this part back...I really don't trust anyone unless I know them pretty well and even that is hard to do. knowing why someone might want to lie to you is a good start. I find that next to impossible...

    Lies

in other words lies suck, but when you beilive them you are sort of volenteering. So when do you know you are being lied to? People think they NEED people in their lives Yessssss...this is a lie!
  11. Hello chinaman avatar! Drool: To let saliva flow from one's mouth...very becoming indeed. Drul: Spelling variation of drool just for Dru
  12. Thank you Scott.. Hey Pi hole you worthless avatar~ You can lick me where I pee Last time I checked this was a message board for TRs and beta requests. For someone that has never done the route, it is probably a good idea to get helpful advice or to get a lowdown of the current conditions from those that have been there recently....so as long as this is a free site and the people provide good beta (unlike yourself) I will ask as many fucking questions as I please!
  13. Nice pic Dru! You are making me drul! One more question.... Places to camp higher up? Are there any solid places higher than Lake Anne? Somebody, anybody been up there to tell me the snow conditions through the gullies?!?!? Open cravasses on the glaciers?!?!? Do we need to worry about avalanches?!?! Any route finding secrets!?!?! Man, the low pressure system predicted to pass through Northern WA this week better dissipate or move! Be kind Mother Nature...please...
  14. HARHAR Dru Good idea BUT flying in the North Cascades would scare me! High density altitude, mountain wave, obscurations, oh my! Need more experience and training in mountain flying....I can only fly WAY OVER the Oregon Cascade Range now and even that is hard to get used to. Not a bush pilot...yet. Flying up to Boeing Field to get up there though-yeeha
  15. Can anyone give me beta for this route? I have read some TRs and route descriptions on it but was wondering if anyone had any special experiences to contribute. Has anyone done it recently? What are the current conditions? Etc, Etc.
  16. You're AWESOME! Thanks for the climb, it meant more to me than you'll ever know.... So where's OUR summit pic?
  17. Climbed Thielsen today with Mr. badass himself, wazzumountaineer! Made really good time, enjoyed some very cool views, and the last scramble to the top was AWESOME! not much snow left up there..... Kurt I remembered the name of that fire I was on near Jefferson a few summers back...Olallie Lake Fire. Told ya I would remember eventually! Pictures pending...

    Packin' heat...

It is so great to see so much diversity among folks. I love this country because not only do we have the choice to carry or not carry (WELL, IF YOU BEHAVE YOURSELF WITH THE LAW) but we can openly express our opinion on the subject if we wanted to. Based on upbringing and personal experience one can draw their own conclusions on whether a gun should be carried or not. I have traveled all over the USA and Mexico, in the city and in the country, ALONE without a gun and have been fine. There are times when I think I need it and there are times I don't. Taking a class is a wonderful idea although I went to the school of "Daddy" when I was about 14. I really do hate the thought of ever using it, but I guess you never know about those things. I know folks that have been violated and a gun really came in handy at the time. I also roamed Montana with my father as a child, hunting or not hunting, carrying a Ruger, for as long as I can remember and I guess it is old hat for me to still continue the practice. To each his own, just be wary of the responsibility and risk of carrying one.

    Packin' heat...

I own a .357 pistol and although it is on the powerful side, I am glad it is on my side! When I lived in Montana, I carried it everytime I went out in the woods. I was probably carrying it illegaly. Get a dog and a gun and you will probably never have problems with animals or nutcases! I know you can get a concealed weapons permit but unsure on how to get one and what your rights are as far as being out in the wilderness with one....can you chime in here Greg_W? They are alot more casual about it in MT versus here although I have never had an incident where I was searched for one, here in the PNW or in MT. I take it out shooting all the time and occasionally carry it on me when I hike around. The .357 I have can shoot .38 bullets which I practice shooting with but there are .357s currently residing in the barrel. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
  20. Sounds good! I'll PM ya for details....
  21. I really want to climb this beautiful mountain! I am concerned about the last part of this peak, and I think I should have a partner. Anyone? Anyone? I have Tues/Wed/Thurs off.
  22. We were all talking about phoenix specifically Yah I know, just was trying to make ya focus on good things...I guess. I actually have never been to Pheonix. Doesn't sound very hip. Been to Snowflake/Show Low..that area, and the Grand Canyon.
  23. Got some of my rappell brothers and sisters down there as well as some other fire friends taken care of business! Sounds like a huge fire. Have to live vicariously through them this summer though. Actually, I kind of like the break..what a great summer it already has been! Call me crazy but I really believe Arizona is beautiful! The Grand Canyon is amazing and much of the scenery (minus the large cities) is something to be seen. Of course I have just been there for fires, so I haven't experienced it on my terms but the desert is very mystical and intruguing to me...the whole southwest desert for that matter. I want to roam that area someday again.
