genepires, your right, I just interpeted your post wrong. What you wrote about pezl is exactly what I was talking about. The way I learned was that you hold the pick forward only when your self-belaying.otherwise your holding it w/the pick to the rear so you can arrest if you have to.

Whew thats almost as many questions as I asked. Ok; i'm going to flat fell the seams. I don't think the point will be a problem, it just kinda comes together. I figured that 11 yards will give me a tent with a 6' peak and a 10' radius. the sil nylon was $60.00 and all the misc. stuff (zipper, thread, etc...) will cost 80-100 dollars max. I made my own pattern by making paper models.And with a similar tipikifaru costing $565.00 and a kiva that weighs twice as much its already worth it(I think it will take a day to sew based on other projects I've done).Oh and I'm putting a vent at the top and they do still make the megamid.

Dru, a couple weeks ago I saw some people at paradise practicing self-arrest,they were holding their axes with the pick forward. they would either try to flip the axe over on their way down or use the adze. Needless to say they weren't very successful. thats the only reason I brought it up...

Ok, I'm getting ready to sew together a pyramid tent and I'm looking for any suggestions from anyone who has used one in the past.I.E.: Megamid, Tipikifaru, danas NukTuk,Etc... I'm making it out of silnylon and I'm thinking of making a modified petagon like the Mtn. Hardwear kiva, except putting in 10 stakes so its rounder and more aerodynamical. So, any thoughts...

with webbing you could Try the beer knot; Tie an overhand knot loosely in the middle of your sling or about 14 in. away from one end. then take one end of your webbing and fold it lengthwise then work it inside of the other end. once you have 12-14ish inches inside,work the overhand knot around so it's centered over the stuffed area.tighten the kot securely and check it as you would a water knot. You should have 4-6 inches of tail on each side of your knot. Clean, low bulk, simple.

I've had mountainsmiths before and they always seem to have a few too many thingys and gadgets. I just found a marmot frontpoint at second bounce.I had to make some modifications, but now it has all the features i've wanted, I don't know about their new packs. I've heard really good things about McHale packs; but you need lots of $$$!

o.k.,I'm curious (George?) about what people carry on their winter/alpine overnights(assume in the snow above treeline low of 0-20?)? What's the lightest you've gotten away with on a 'planned' overnight.i'm also just curious about what shit people take(what's the weirdest?). I'm not trying to start a sprayfest about who has the most expensive gear,just what you've found that works. I've managed 25 pounds so far not including food or water
