  1. I'm a cracker/wasp/ridge-runnin' grit, so the_finger.gif

And I married an Irish/German/Native American, so that makes our son a....?

Too much work to figure it all out. I just tell people I'm 100% mutt... cantfocus.gif

  2. The most common loop, which I think your refering to fox goes ozette to sandpoint to cape alava to ozette, little less than 10 miles. Senic but it will be crowded on the weekends and you have to carry a bear bucket. You can camp at Sandpoint or Alava. I recommend somewhere in between (fewer crowds), which the forest service doesn't.

If your going on a weekend I would recommend one of Matt's suggestions to the south.

  3. With a few tent questions going around I thought I would put in my two cents. I bought my Walrus Rapeede XV about 5 years ago for really cheap, but if I had paid full price I would still be happy with it. Its fairly light (sub 6lbs.), very strong and really quick to set up. So if you need a good 4 season tent and can't spend $500, iwould recommend this one. That is if they're still being made...

Does anyone know it walrus is still producing new tents for retail or were they complwtely obsolved (sp?) by msr? Either way, great tent thumbs_up.gif

  4. I have a lifelink shovel like this one. Lighter than any others I've handled. It works well for the cascades. I've dug a couple snowcaves with it. Just don't plan on it surviving in tougher environs (alaska).

  5. On a somewhat related note is the water level low enough to boulder at rattlesnake (I would think so)?

Also does anyone know about some boulders near the base of si's north pilar. Caveman said something about them a couple years ago, I've never checked it out.

  6. Nice job! We were the party of thee that went up the Fly and met you at the top. We got a litte off route coming down, but Klenke woulda been right at home yellaf.gif

Did you happen to follow some old track through some very steep trees just east of the peak? rolleyes.gif

the correct route is to drop over this col around denman. Opposed to going directly down this drainage, which as you might have guessed is what I did.

  7. check out the webpage for the canadian store "mountain magic" you can get two mammut phoenix ropes for about $240, they are better than the beal ice-floss and weigh equivalent amounts.

Why do you like the Mammut's better? I don't have any reason to think otehrwise just wondering what the advantage is in your eyes.

  8. Anyone use the GoLight Gust? That thing is crazy light, something like 20 oz? Is there any drawback to it? confused.gif

Add strap reinforcement in the form of cordura backing sewn through the pack and the straps

Widen the belt with a wedge-shaped piece of cordura.

    It's still too big.

If you can sew, it's no biggee, if you can't - get a different pack.

Just buy the Jam instead of the gust. its 20oz., a bit smaller but more technical. More technical in that it has side compression straps, water bottle holders and is hydration compatible. My only concern for you is it might be a little small. Check it out. Quality pack in my opinion.
