  19. Now that y'all have had a chance to hug it out over the bothy bags I just wanted to chime in and provide some more info about the Spoonbill. As of last May/June we now officially have a production model of the Spoonbill. We most likely will not have the bag in stock during our busy seasons (Nov - Jan and Mar - Aug) but one of our staff members usually leaves his personal one at the shop for folks to check out. The Spoonbill is currently only available in one length which will comfortably accommodate users up to 6'3" and will be produced on a made-to-order basis; the turnaround will be 5-6 weeks minimum as it is by far the most complicated/difficult bag we have ever made. In the Schoeller NanoSphere shell fabric the weight is 2lb 10.5oz and retail is $700. We currently have 5 or 6 Spoonbills in the wild, including one with Colin, one with the Smileys and 2 or 3 with various other customers. Photos of the finished product are available here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150190754518756.325312.135426968755&type=1&l=a88f3d4354.
  20. Rob is right on the money - our lighter weight jackets are slightly short in torso length by design so that they will stay out of the way of your harness. The Hyperion tends to feel longer in torso length compared to the Helios because it has an adjustable elastic drawcord at the hem as opposed to the stitched on lycra banding. If you want the warmth of the Helios but like the fit of the Hyperion better it is a much less expensive proposition to overfill the Hyperion ($10/oz) than to modify the torso length of a Helios which is one of the most expensive (labor intensive) custom modifications we can do. Right now custom orders are running a minimum 6 week turnaround time due to the increased workload at our factory for the holiday season. The best thing is often just to come into the store and start trying on jackets with assistance from one of our staff - we make so many different models and sizes we can usually find you a standard or nearly standard configuration jacket that will meet your needs so you can avoid the added cost and wait time for custom production.
  21. Laughingman, at 6ft tall we would definitely recommend that you go with the 72" model Vireo. Although not always necessary, the ability to cinch the top above your shoulders (rather than in your armpits) is pretty critical when using the bag towards the bottom of its temperature rating. As mentioned above, when paired with our Volant Jacket the bag is good for the mid 20s (this is my preferred setup for Rainier) and with a lighter jacket such as our Hooded Helios or Hyperion the bag is good for the mid-upper 30s. The bag also works great by itself as a light summer bag for overnight temps around 40-50. Personally I have been using a Vireo since the spring of 2008 and have never looked back. Usually on longer trips I will take a bag like our Swallow or Lark with a full zip for more comfort but for shorter trips I always go for my Vireo; I have also used it on trips up to 9 days long when saving weight/bulk was critical. Regarding your question on the CiloGear pack, you are correct it does not have the HDPE framesheet/aluminum bar, it just has the folded over EvaZote very stiff crosslinked foam with almost the same thermal insulative properties of EvaZote back pad. I have managed to cram a 4-day Rainier trip into my 30L but typically use it for in-a-push climbs or climbs with only one overnight. Depending on the bulk of your other gear and how well you pack you should probably consider bumping up to the 45L and just taking the framesheet out/leaving the lid behind when you want to save weight for shorter trips.
