Quit picking on the classes. We've all got to learn somehow.

I doubt you would consider the rock space valuable. The basic classes only climb the really easy stuff.

Surprisingly, it's not as bad as you might think. There's room out there for everyone, and many many instructors. I'm sure it would be better to have a climbing mentor take you to the best places and teach you everything, but that's not an option for everyone. Besides, we're talking about really basic skills here - like how to put on your harness, tie knots, belay & rappel.

Yes - an altimeter!!! That's what I'm going to get too! If only my refund were higher.... I'd get those chopsticks too.

I don't know if they still have them, but I bought my MSR Classics before Christmas at Second Ascent in Ballard for 80 or 90 bucks new. They also had a variety of used snowshoes for sale. Don't get the extensions unless you're taking them to Alaska or the Rockies. Not necessary on our soggy pac NW snow.

Where is Fossil? I'm one of those pathetic climbers that gets Elvisleg on a 5.7, so it's probably perfect for me. Thanks for the info on Wilkeson. Any other south-end climbing advice would be most appreciated as well.

I have to agree with Self Propelled. The views from Sahale were stunning.

Sahale Arm has a lovely commode, as does the Heliotrope Trail on Baker.

Hey, you guys worried about attracting the opposite sex while climbing... have you noticed that most women wear helmets? It's all that darn common sense God gave us along with the estrogen. If we're not afraid of messing up our hair with a helmet... why are you?
