Ah. That explains why when I recently signed a couple of waivers, the person behind the desk said that they aren't really "valid".

Yo, ericccc - last I checked, you don't need a scrip for Hefeweizen!

  4. Am I the only one that doesn't cook on trips anymore? I eat only cold stuff, and leave the stove at home unless it is absolutely necessary for melting snow. I find it hard for me to eat when I'm working hard anyway, so I pretty much have to force myself to eat on trips. So for any early morning summit day, for me it's a Cliff bar and a couple of Vivarin for breakfast, Gu all day, and dinner in town.

  5. If you're really concerned, spend a couple of bucks and ask a lawyer about this and have them write the waiver for you. I'm sure they could give you more reliable legal advice than us anonymous posters on this site. As someone said to me on another topic - "This advice is worth what you paid for it...".

Yeah, I notice it, too. I just figured it was something going on while they were working on the servers...

That's why I shake my head when I see Mountaineers stickers on cars...to me that's like posting a sign on your car that says "I'm going to be gone all day".

My old trash veedub bug was broken into at a trailhead a few years ago...must have been kids, because there was nothing but crap in the car but they took everything - cassettes, change of clothes, ice scraper - and they couldn't figure out how to get the stereo out, so they stole the knobs and face-plate.

  8. I've been sleep depped a number of times before, and I HATE the feeling. I start talking like Tarzan ("Me want food") and can't concentrate.

The worst was one time coming back from a ski trip, driving down I-5 just getting into Seattle, and falling asleep at the wheel doing 65 mph. Woke up in the back of an ambulance with a couple of state patrolmen looking at me.

    Yo' momma.

  10. We bivvied at 6500' on the north ridge of Stuart, and the goats kept walking around us. They also knocked a rock or two from above, but they were a minor distraction compared to those goddam snafflehounds. Those little bastards were relentless. It got to the point where I was sitting in my bivy bag with my ice-axe in my hand just waiting for the little rats to come back. Woke up my partners sparkin' off the rocks with my axe. I'm not sleeping on that route again.

(Yeah, I know, it's their home.)

  11. And there should not just be access fees, but hourly-use fees, paid in advance, with a reservation system that requires at least a nine- month notice.

And that certification should be provided by the Mountaineers.
