Anyone out there want to hit Index or elsewhere and get some aid climbing in? I've been in the mood recently. Otherwise, if anyone just wants to get some routes in, I am game for that too. Just need to climb...

I flew on Continental to and from Peru last year. I had my empty fuel bottle, and stove (used, not new) packed in the middle of my backpack. I was able to check my bags, no problem. I was a little wary about having it in a carry-on, but found no problem checking it. They could be just covering themselves, so they don't have to make sure people have them empty, they just tell people they can't bring them...

Thanks for the offer on the soloist, but my main goal for the device is aid climbin'. I am not too interested in the hassle for free climbing, unless of course it is mandatory on an aid climb... I would much rather free solo the 5.2 than rope solo a 5.8. Has anyone used the solo-aid? From some other readings it sounds like it works, but is not as smooth as the silent partner. It would be nice to get by with only spending $80 instead of $225, but I would much rather be safe and comfortable than cheap and dead. Know anywhere to get a good deal??

Any thoughts? I have used a soloist before, but before i spend the bucks want to get some opinions... thanks. M

Forgive my ignorance, but I would prefer to ask before I do anything stupid and piss people off. I am relatively new to the area, but have been getting into aid climbing quite a bit!!! Would there be any objection for me to head up Town Crier or another climb at Index and setup a ledge halfway up or so?? I am just lookin' to get some practice hauling and just havin' some fun on a weekend jaunt big wall style. If there is a better place, let me know. I am already planning on the Chief, but would like something a bit closer for an easy weekend jaunt. Thanks!
