Yep, not far from the horse camp at all. Maybe a mile. There is usually a snowbank close to there that takes a bit to push through.

Lava looked good in early may, before weather came in on me. Here are some pics while I was there to get you stoked! We had 8 miles or more of road when we were there. I'm sure you could get really close to killin creek now.

I have thought of this before (different variations). I think that it would be very cool, but only on skis. If you did it on foot, it'd just be stupid
. Okay, maybe not stupid, but you'd definitely be high on crack. I'd rather be high on corn snow with skis. -

The coleman hw was a lot of fun. I would'a been really excited to ski inner c too. Ha. I had a picture of it up on my computer for weeks, but now I need to change it to something new. Maybe coleman hw? That thing was awesome, such a first class line.

Nice to see you got out there Ryan!!! I actually ended up taking an impromptu vacation the week before yours. Sorry I couldn't join ya, as I couldn't push it a week. It looks like your trip went much better than mine. I suffered in the rain.

As a kayaker I have looked at this creek with kayaker eyes. There are a few big drops that looked like fun higher up and I think that there are unrunnable sections there too, but I do think that it is worth a look for sure (I said as much in a trip report I wrote: http://www.cascadecrusades.org/SkiMountaineering/logan/bandedglacier/bandedglacier2006/bandedglacier2006.htm ). I have definitely thought that it has the potential to be a so, so run in a scenic valley that is if there aren't too many log jams, they have been crazy this year. I did 15 this past weekend on the upper Dugeness!

I wonder if concealed weapons weren't banned on campus how this would've ended. It seems to me that no matter how much you ban something, only the crazies and illegals will be the ones left with what's banned. That leaves the average joe pretty powerless when someone decides to go off the deep end, especially in a place where there are lots of people and only one guy has a gun. That's a lot of power over everyone.

I brought my skis up that route in a day once and got pretty worked. It was nice skiing down the sherpa though. I hate downclimbing. BTW, I was also up there on Saturday (the other side). You probably saw our tracks.

Here's an update on conditions for stuart, teannaway approach. I was able to drive to within 3 miles of Beverely Creek and with a few carries, ski all the way back. Instead of going over Long's Pass, we used the Beverly Creek approach. I really liked it. Cascadian was in great condition and the summit has a lot of snow. Ulrich's was a great ski, all that I expected. We had one short carry, but I think we could've avoided it had we gone slightly more skier's right.
What a beautiful day friday and saturday's clouds ended up keeping the snow firmer, which was good for sluff control.

Bummer. I hope that this mentality of more regulation doesn't spread. Although, most non-climbing people I've met already feel that we climbers take undue risk. So maybe it is too late? The wilderness our forefathers saved will be passed on to 300lb overweight-bubble boys and girls.

The road to the suiattle is washed out. You'd be adding 12 miles or so. Not a problem. I would just add time. I'm sure the trail is full of downed trees too. Again, just add time. As for beta, there is a lot of information if you search the web. This has been an avg year for snow.

I tried to ski index. We were going for that cool couloir in the becky, seen in the above photo. It was cliffed out so we climbed and skied another, but not from the summit. We just went in cross country to that side of the mountain. It was a fun schwack, crappy skiing except for the couloir which dead ended on a ridge. The schwack was equally fun on the way out.

Wow...those are amazing. What are you shooting with?
Nikon d200 with a 28-105 lens, which is nothing special, but the camera is nice. CS2 to edit helps a lot also. The D80 has the same sensor and is a lot cheaper. It just doesn't have metal innards (better against weather).

Nice! How'd you take that pic? I need to learn how to do that
I haven't taken many night shots myself, but they aren't too difficult. On that shot I made a few mistakes. One was not blocking the camera from the wind, and another was leaving the focus on infinity.
To take night shots, put the camera on a timer (or get a shutter release). Push the exposure out; this one had a 30-second exposure or so. Finally have a little tripod or set on a rock.
