Trip: Colchuck Peak - Standard Glacier Route

Date: 6/8/2015

Trip Report:

Elevation: 8705 ft / 2653 m

Distance: 14 miles round trip.

The weather has been so beautiful it is hard not to take a few days off and get outside. Decided to take Monday June 8th, 2015 off work so that I could get outside.

Colchuck via colchuck glacier sounded like a good bet. 14 miles round trip as a day climb was doable.

Left the Seattle metro area around midnight picked up my buddy in Leavenworth and we started at the trailhead around 4am, and hit the summit by 10:30am. Was back at the trailhead by 3pm and on my way back to Seattle.

These two climbers were on Dragontail. Not sure what route they were on, but it looks cool.

Felt bad for these guys going up in the heat while we were headed down.

Gear Notes:

Helmet, crampons, and ice axe. Best to travel light.

Approach Notes:

Trail was great coming in. 14 miles round trip. The last mile was painful and long.

Thanks for posting. I was about to post asking for conditions on Stuart and Dragontail. You answered both.

Now just to find a partner. Anyone interested PM me. Cheers.

How did the upper Cascadian look? Thinking of the N ridge this weekend.

Honestly most of Stuart looks more melted out than normal years... I was a bit surprised (well not really), with regards to how bare the peaks looked compared to normal snow years.

Best of luck & have fun!
