lou hibbard Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Always had an interest in this mountain. Very solid/safe all around climber in decent shape. OK with one or two day approach. Thought of targeting July 12 weekend and moving out if necessary due to weather. I am very flexible. If want my climbing background I am at: http://peakbagger.com/climber/climber.aspx?cid=6799 and http://www.mountainproject.com/u/lou-hibbard//105805196 Any interest? Quote
asolo Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I may be interested. The earliest I can be at the Hoh RF trailhead is 07/12 very late (driving). I would like to climb Mt.Olympus and then hike and packraft all the way to the ocean. The climbing part is questionable since I need somebody to tie in with due to crevasses. How's crevasses on the route, BTW? Can it be soloed? From some descriptions it seemed like real glacier travel can be minimized to a couple of hundred yards crossing Blue Glacier. Can this route be soloed reasonably? I have a full week until 07/19. anton@solovyev.com, http://www.solovyev.com/ Quote
OKPDX Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 "07/12 very late" we hope to descent from the summit and be on the way back. Could your be a day or 2 earlier? Ye, people have soloed it. Crevasses should not be on the route. So, if you come to the point where you need to jump through a crevasse, probably you're on a wrong path. Generally if you have prior glacier travel experience, a good sense of direction and a common sense you should be fine. Looked at your link, seems we have been at the same time in the same place but don't know each other or didn't had a chance to meet. Quote
asolo Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) If the weather is not cooperating, do you plan to cancel based on the forecast or hang out at the high camp and wait for a window for a day or two? Just thinking I might be able to catch up, if Sat/Sun weather is bad. I have found a bunch of trip reports. Some parties seem to have avoided crevasses, but others found quite a few. More than I saw on Rainier in July, it seems. Probably not smart soloing. Sigh. P.S. Later in the week I may be looking to do something alpine. I had Adams for solo or Rainier or Baker if I find a company. Edited July 7, 2014 by asolo Quote
