Trip: Arrowhead - Standard NW Face

Date: 12/21/2013

Trip Report:

After a looking at weather and ski area reports we decided to ski up Arrowhead. If nothing else it was a good way to celebrate the solstice.

Not climbing a snow wall left by plows on the edge of HWY-2 was the first hint of what we were in for. Deciding to ski on the road instead of taking the shortcut through the new timber cut area was our second.

New snowline was near the top of the first cut. Traveling off road became practical in the upper cut. Since the road ends below the cut we were happy.

The sun came out for a minute or two on the summit

Fun times, never mind the lurking rocks

Below the rock tower there's lots of tree and creek dodging till you reach the road.

Gear Notes:

Don't bring the new skis you just bought. While on skis the whole way you could easily walk to the upper timber cut without much postholing
