leora Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I've been hearing about so many weird access closures "due to the government shutdown" that I thought I'd ask if anyone has been up to Cold Springs at Adams or Climber's bivouac at St Helens, recently? Is everything open? leora Quote
DPS Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I can't speak specifically to Mt. Adams or St. Helens, but in the North Cascades every campground, parking lot, trail head and road side scenic look out inside the park were taped off and signed as closed. The National Forest trail heads were open, although the bathrooms were locked and signed as closed. I wonder if the Cold Springs trail head would be accessible though, as there was two feet of snow at ~6,000 ft in the North Cascades. Quote
Seamstress Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 The road to Climbers Bivvy is not closed due to the federal funding crisis. However, snow cah affect access to Climbers Bivvy. THe bathrooms are locked. It's like winter - you can acess the forest and won't get any services. The permit fee isn't waived. You just get less in services. Quote
leora Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 I thought that I would update the info, here, as well as on the "access" forum: I'm pleased to report that the gates to Climber's Bivouac, and all of the restrooms (including the composting one on Monitor Ridge trail) were open!!! (And, there was even some spare toilet paper in the restrooms!) Permits are being sold, as usual. This was as of 10/9/13. Quote
