Anybody out there ever tried the Labour Day Buttress south of Slesse? Which of the 6800+ summits is it actually on? Fairley refers to GR035305, but this seems way off as both he and Beckey refer to the eastern of the two summits. Any beta, is 5.4 accurate? Descent?(Why didn't KM put this in the Select? Hmmm) Cheers!

When you are hiking up Nesakwatch Creek, that 6800 foot summit is the pointy one DUE SOUTH of you. IE it is the south easternmost peak in the whole cirque. This makes it the 5th or 6th summit left of the main summit of slesse. The route line is pretty obvious from the hike in. You have to approach as for S peak SE buttress and then continue traversing on slabs for another hour or two (?) to get to the base.

Who knows for Descent.

Expect "Culbert 5.4" to be 5.7 or 5.8. "Culbert 5.6" is consistently 5.9...Oh, it has probably never been repeated either. Thats why KM didn't include it. that or cause he didn't have a photo....

Thanks dru. The other spires look pretty neat too and there seems to be about four lines that I can't find any ascent record of. Gonna check 'em out this weekend.

I climbed Labour Day Buttress about 2 years ago. We climbed the obvious buttress on the southern of the 2 6800+ foot peaks. Started out great with a 70' pitch of 5.7-5.8 hands (Thanks for making me not feel so bad about the rating Dru). After that it was lots of moss and lichen covered granite. Not so fun.

We descended to the notch with the other 6800' peak (1 short rappel, optional) then did a traverse on the ridgeline heading south (beautiful granite slabs). Much sooner than expected a hidden ledge led down into the next basin, where a steep scramble led over an intervening ridgeline back under Labour Day Buttress. All in all the descent was relatively easy and beautiful. Be warned lots of icefall danger approaching the route.

Also the east buttress on the other 6800+ looks pretty cool, probably better than what we did. Have fun. If you have any questions give me an e-mail.
