Ed_Hobbick Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Trip: Mt. Si (North Bend, Washington) - Haystack Date: 1/18/2010 Trip Report: I hiked up to the Haystack figuring that I might be able to do some scrambling on ice. I arrived and found no ice on the route, just dry rock. Mabey it'll ice up later in the season. Gear Notes: None Approach Notes: Bare and Wet Quote
mountainsloth Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 has anyone climbed that hand crack on the east side of the haystack? i have always been curious about it, but never motivated enough to bring the gear up. Quote
Le Piston Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I've done the chimney on the south face and the southeast buttress, but not the hand crack. What's it rated? I have wondered more about the west face and it's climbing potential. Quote
mountainsloth Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I am not sure. It doesn't look too hard. I have heard of some people putting up routes on the west side, but the rock is pretty crappy. Quote
Frankazoid Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) the west faces are wildly dangerous. ive climbed about 1/3 of the way up on one of the buttresses. i would like to complete a route... theres one big left facing dihedral visable from the road that shoots up to the north fork. thats the line. extremely hazardous though everywhere. ive heard of 2 ascents on the west faces, the last being in 2000. reported as death everywhere. sounds fun huh? nuts-cams to# 3- hand drill.
