David_Parker Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) My son and I climbed Mt Townsend on Sunday. Patches of snow on the trail in the woods and once to the main gulley (all snow)we just basically headed straight up, eschewing the trail. Snow was consolidated with corn layer! Occasional post hole, but otherwise firm. Wish we brought skis! Puget Sound had a double cloud layer with obvious rain shadow from Port Angeles to PT. Mt Rainier only thing visible in Cascades. The butt glissade down was really fun and fast. A few parties of hikers in inappropriate footware didn't get very far past the woods. For a flat top (more of a ridge) summit, the view is still amazing...good bang for the buck! Edited December 1, 2009 by David_Parker Quote
David_Parker Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 Just "uploaded" photos onto cc but have no idea where they went now. They are not in my gallery for some reason! If someone can help me find them I'll post here. Quote
Fairweather Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Nice job. I love that trip--but I never have figured which one of those little humps on the ridge is the true summit. Where do you think the snowline is right now? I'm thinking about Mount Washington and wondering if the 3700' TH is drivable--or at least close. Quote
Drederek Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Lots of snow in the southern end, as you're probably experiencing right now, I doubt you'll make the lower th of Ellinor (2700') Quote
bremerton_john Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 As of this morning it is still passable to the lower Ellinor trailhead for most vehicles. Some can push on further. Quote
Drederek Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Someone drove their Jeep to the Mt Washington trailhead yesterday and headed up the hill, hope they made it. pics are from last friday Quote
