Wastral Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Anyone going to Waddington Next Summer? My brother and I are going into the region again and we would love to share helicopter weight with you. Food/Fuel weight. Probably around 50-75lbs worth of junk we don't want to haul into the region from Tidewater via Bute Inlet as we got Jubilee or at least 95% of it anyways last time we were there via Knight inlet. Dates would be 2nd week of July Through 1st week of August. Since we are walking in, we could have you drop off the food at plumbers hut as early as May/June possibly. If you are going up there earlier. Brian Quote
Don_Serl Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) contact Brian Jones at the Canada West Mtn School - they often have guided parties going in and MIGHT have extra capacity you could share (or 'rent'). NOLS also still seems to do an annual traverse or two thru the range, and gets resupplied a couple times. obviously, almost all of the helicopter traffic in and out of the wadd is with Mike King at Whitesaddle, so he's the key guy to stay in touch with. keep in mind that the Kings are 'country folk' and that they've earned what they've got, so outright 'freeloading' isn't much a part of their world-view - but they sure understand the concept of a deal, especially if it's approached openly and straightforwardly. good luck - nice to see there are still people around willing to put energy into 'the bush'! p.s. it's "Plummer" hut, named for Paul Plummer, not 'plumber', as in butt... cheers, Edited November 15, 2009 by Don_Serl Quote
Wastral Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 Thanks for the info! Forgot about contacting NOLS, and I certainly didn't know about Canada West Mtn School. More than willing to help pay the way for anyone who would be willing to help. Free, always sounds soo good though. Hmm, guess don't want Plumbers crack connotations! Brian Figure that via Bute can use a standard Mtn Bike to Jones creek then head up and start by tagging Marcus/Merlon then going over to Plummers Hut. Google earth is amazing, can tell that as of 2005 the roads were wide open all the way to about 2000 feet on Jones Creek then up into "virgin" "timber". Can also tell that the bridge across Jones creek is... GONE, though at least its a "small" creek Quote
G-spotter Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Interfor had a contract out last month to do deactivation planning for the whole Scar Creek drainage. Other drainages possible too. Might want to call their Campbell River office in the spring and check current road status. Google Earth images from 04/05/06 can be substantially wrong by now when it comes to road status. Quote
Wastral Posted November 20, 2009 Author Posted November 20, 2009 Inside info! Thanks! Please pretty please let there still be a bridge over scar creek and the bridge over the waddington glacier terminus creek... forget which name... =-) I know that as of 05 via google the bridge over Jones Creek which is the last creek before the Tiedmen glacier was not there. =( Thanks, Brian Foote Quote
ScottPick Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I've flown into the Pantheon and Niut ranges in the past couple of years with Mike. I am interested to see if next summer our plans can overlap and we can split a ride. Contact me: scottpick@shaw.ca Quote
