jordansahls Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Is there any way that I can get hold of a topo for the Kearny variation on the NEB of Colchuck? Or do I have to spend the 20$ on the book. Quote
mountainmatt Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 This might get you started... http://www.summitpost.org/route/168476/northeast-buttress.html Quote
jordansahls Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Thanks, their route seems like a mix of the Beckey and the Kearny route. I think the Kearny route starts at the lowest point on the Buttress, and meets up with their route around the 6th pitch mark. Quote
DPS Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Did you climb NEB on Sunday (7/26/2009)? If so did you get hit by any falling rocks? Quote
JensHolsten Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I have some pics and a video link of this route. Did it maybe two months ago now. We had a lot of fun, found the route finding to be straightforward and the rock good. Watch for falling rocks...a good early season route above the lake. Quote
jordansahls Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Did you climb NEB on Sunday (7/26/2009)? If so did you get hit by any falling rocks? Yep, I was up there on Sunday the 26th. My friend and I did the Kearny variation, rather than the Beckey route. We did manage to dodge a few zingers from up top, but we were mostly out of the firing zone. We could hear large rockfall coming from the Beckey route, was that you? Good route, I will put up a TR here soon. Quote
DPS Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Yes, that was myself and Aaron Z on the Beckey (we think) route. We knew there was a party below us so we tried not to knock stuff down, but it was inevitable on a couple of the pitches. Glad to hear you did not get hit by anything. I really liked the route. I felt it had much more quality climbing than say the Serpentine Arete. Quote
jordansahls Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 It was a great climb. How was the start of the Beckey? The Kearny start was a lot of fun, very clean, and after hearing all of the rockfall on the Beckey side, we were glad to have chosen it. Quote
DPS Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 The start of the Beckey, at least the way we went, was very good, clean 5.8 climbing. The second pitch went through the band of pink rock that was super loose. After that it was pretty good again. Quote
