Das Beerd Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 So it looks like the weather is shaping up to be nice this weekend up on Rainier. Does anyone know what the DC or Ingram Direct looks like this time of year, which one is preferable, and if there is much of an established trail yet? Better yet, anyone want to let three Oregonians follow them up above Muir? We were planning to just head up to Muir but if route-finding isn't an issue we'd love to get a stab at the top. Thanks! Pete04 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 There's a great trip report on Turn's All Year regarding a recent Ingraham Direct ascent (Gib Chute descent). Ck that out for a route update. Quote
cbcbd Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I doubt there's an established trail up anything yet. Guiding season usually starts in June, it's still snowing and blowing - tracks will disappear. DC doesn't start making sense until the Ingraham melts out more and the crevasses start opening up. Have you thought of the Gib Ledges? More direct (no traversing), less route finding, minimum crevasses, some exposure. Quote
Das Beerd Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 I'm going with a few newbies so I'm not sure they'd be up for Gib Ledges. I'm leaning towards the Ingram Direct at this point. I might just see if there's a group up at Muir that has been up top that will let us follow their lead. I've only been up the Kautz so anything out of Muir is new to me. Quote
jdustinb Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Perhaps a little late for this, but my buddy and I will be heading up Saturday early afternoon to Ingraham Flats before taking the Ingraham Direct route Sunday morning. I've only been up via the DC route so Ingraham Direct will be somewhat new to me, but if you guys want to follow along, we wouldn't mind the extra company. Quote
