wfinley Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I may be in Stanley for a few days in late June for a wedding and I'd like to do some climbing. Unfortunately we won't have time to do an over-nighter into the Sawtooths area but will have time to do day trips. Where I can find out more about potential cragging areas near Stanley? Likewise -- any suggested moderate routes (5.6-5.8) in the Sawtooths that are doable in day? Thanks! Quote
powderhound Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=717145 You can do the finger in an easy day: if you have a vehicle that can make it through the road. There is some cragging around the town but to get exact directions you need to stop in and talk to some of the guys at the shop. It is about 10 miles towards custer and has a dozen or so sport routes. Quote
GP3 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 There is also Super Slab, if you want some good exposure and a longer route that will give you a feel for being in the mountains. Take the boat across the lake and it is only about a 30 minute hike to the base. Look here for more info: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/155329/super-slab.html Quote
wfinley Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks for the info. The Sawtooths look pretty awesome - can't wait to explore them! Quote
