Scott_McLellan Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 2 Calgary-based climbers are looking for more to climb the east ridge of Mt. Logan in the Yukon Territory. We will be leaving in the last week of April and climbing into may. The trip will take anywhere from 14 to 30 days, depending on the weather. Experienced alpine climber-types are what we're looking for. Get in touch with us soon, TIME IS TIGHT!! Nelly Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 Good luck - I climbed that route in spring of 99, awesome place, awesome route!! Do you intend to fly in from Kluane Lake or Yakutat? If you fly in from Kluane, Andy Wiliams (I assume he's still flying) is the best!! Quote
Ade Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 The best what exactly? Unfortunately he may be the only game in town after Kurt's untimely death. Does anyone know if Gulf Air are even offering a service at the moment. Quote
Nelly Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 The "best," just my way of saying Andy did an excellent job getting us in and out under difficult conditions. Yes, very sad thing that happened to Kurt. I imagine Gulf Air is still operational, but not sure. Quote
mattp Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 You might call to check, but I searched "Gulf Air" on Yahoo and came up with this. http://www.ptialaska.net/~gulfair/mtns3.htm "We regret that due to our loss of Kurt and his plane 00Q – we will be discontinuing mountain flying operations." fern Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 there aren't any other nearby fixed-wing aircraft besides Andy and the Helio-Courier for flying into the Logan area. There are plenty of helicopter pilots however. Doug Maconen is a great pilot (and character) flying a Jet Ranger out of Haines Junction for Trans North Helicopters. Depending on how much gear+food+people you need to ferry, the costs could be similar. Quote
Nelly Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 Flew with Doug in 98' At that time the cost was $900 (CA) per hour, and you still pay if he has to abort due to weather. Andy is considerably cheaper. Cost into Logan was approximately $850 per prson, round trip, excluding tips etc. Quote
