mtn.climber Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Thinking of going up the south side of Mt Stuart, via the Cascadian Couloir route this weekend. Anyone know if any gear is needed (ice axe, crampons, helmet, etc) besides trekking poles. Also, is this best done in one day, or is there a good spot to set up camp before summiting. Thanks for the help. Quote
telemarker Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Your best piece of gear will be an ipod to distract you from the overwhelming tedium of ascending then descending 3,000' of steep monotonous endless trail. Light ice axe may be useful below the false summit though if there's still snow... Quote
chrisr Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 we did this in a day a couple years ago. It was a looong day though. If I remember right, it took about 12 hours. You definitely want an ice axe if there's still snow because the boulders to the left of the snow field look like they'd be quicker but they're loose and scary. Stick to the snow. If you just want a grueling day of great cardio, this is it. Quote
Maxtrax Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 From Ingalls pass on Monday it looked like Cascadian was devoid of snow. Bring a dust mask to help with all the dust from the scree Quote
kevino Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 last time i looked out of my backyard there was still snow between the false summit and the summit. Quote
