leadmade Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I'm interested in beta on the west ridge and road condition. please share if you have been up there this year. thanks so much! Quote
yesman Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Climbed WR on sat - road gated at Eldo (about mile 20) - easy road walk after that. Last bit of trail before Boston Basin has snow. Basin is all snow. On Saturday the Couliour was in, although melting fast. Ridge is dry. The last creek crossing on the way out can be impassible if it's a hot day and you reach it in the afternoon. Quote
moraineboy Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) They say a photo is worth a thousand words....here is 2000+ for ya. These were taken from Sahale Arm last Saturday, June 28. Expect some changes as this week has continued with sun and warm temps in the alpine. Call The North Cascades NP Wilderness Information Center in Marblemount for latest conditions on the Cascade River Road. The road will be opening to the Cascade Pass TH sometime in July. Phone: 360 854-7245 Don't forget to get a backcountry permit for overnight camping in the Wilderness and blue bags at the WIC in Marblemount. WIC hours: Daily, Sunday - Thursday 7:00am - 6:00pm, Friday and Saturday 7:00am - 8:00pm Edited July 2, 2008 by moraineboy Quote
Alpine_Tom Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Did you get a look at NF Buckner? I imagine it's in pretty good shape? Quote
leadmade Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 Thank so much for the beta! Yesman, was the West Ridge crowded? how many people did you see on the route? Quote
jport Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 We climbed the West Ridge of Forbidden (via the Torment-Forbidden Traverse) on Sunday. See PTownClimber's TR: http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/812497/gonew/1#UNREAD The ridge is completely dry and in fine condition right now. We downclimbed the ridge to avoid the traversing the snow patches on the north face. The approach through the gully may be tricky. We rapped the gully and found the upper portion (+/-100') has exposed rock. The rest of the gully has really soft snow right now. The rap stations are almost unreachable due to moat melt-out. That ridge itself is "IN" and cruiser... go get it! Quote
