understilts Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Looking to buy a portaledge. ANy thoughts on who makes a better one? Quote
archenemy Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I have a double by A5. I like it well enough, but over time it seems like it sags in the middle and is uncomfortable. Of course, it could just seem like this b/c I am not as tough as I used to be and I like comfy sleeping arrangements, but I swear it seems like it isn't as tightly stretched over the frame as it used to be. pink Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 don't you have the shark fin thingy in the center? Quote
Bug Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 .......but I swear it seems like it isn't as tightly stretched over the frame as it used to be. Oh boy. I will not go there, I will not go there.... There is a combination of fabric stretch and metal fatigue that definately allows for the whole thing to sag in the middle after awhile. This is especially true when used a lot in very hot conditions. Quote
archenemy Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 It's been out in the sun to be sure! It may be time to find a home for it with someone who isn't all whiny and I'll get a new one. Quote
pink Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 shit just wears out when used. you can also fuck you portaledge up in a undesirable bivi spot. it's preferred to have a flat smooth wall for proper set up. it depends how steep the route you are climbing. low angle walls tend to wear on your ledges more. Raindawg Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 These FISH ones are cool ("The Double Whammy"), if you can find one: Fish Big Wall Gear As the promotional literature says: "The main bed features offset "Dual Dorsal" fins...guaranteed to keep your fruity buddies off ya." Ain't that right, pope? Quote
underworld Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 when shopping for one... check out how the rainfly is deployed. i have the a5 double and the rainfly is a real PITA!. i think other, newer types look like easier deployement. Quote
