robink Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I'm interested in some ski touring in the Olympics. Does anyone have some recommendations for a longish tour and/or comments on snow conditions in Feb.? Quote
Shaun Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I will be watching this thread, too. I would love to find some good spots in the Olympics. Quote
Mal_Con Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Most of the approaches are in valleys which require a long hike to snow. There is some good stuff from Hurricane ridge out towards Obstruction point. Can be some stuff out of Deer Park but usually the road is closed too low. There was a cabin at Waterhole Camp where you could stay but it is long gone. Quote
Macson Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Mt. Townsend is fun. Also, Mt. Ellinor from the summer route. But keep an eye on conditions. The upper bowls on the summer route are prime avy slopes. The winter route is too steep for me to go up or down on skis. Quote
gavastik Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Re: approaches in valleys with no snow... So what's the approx. snow line altitude in February then? Or is there a resource somewhere that can give that info (maybe ranger station in the NP I guess)? Are streams as swollen as they say in the valleys in that time of year? Or is that more in the spring? Quote
