He knows that one can purchase a brand new book for retail price.

 

He knows that Daryl Cramer posts here, and wrote the guide.

 

His guide was stolen, and he wants to replace it (a used guide) the cheapest way possible (with another used guide).

 

Telling him that REI sells guidebooks, or the author sells guidebooks, is not particularly helpfull.
