escapeclause Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I'm thinking of doing a trip up Ruth. Anyone have any beta on the skiing conditions? Quote
jon Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I was up there last Sunday, there is not enough snow to ski to Hennegan Camp. PM me if you want some pictures. Quote
skibum1087 Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Skied it last week right before the rain, you could not ski to hannegan camp directly but you could ski a great chute all the way to the valley floor that took you lower in elevation than hannegan camp. Then it was just a matter of bushwhacking back to the trail, well worth it though, 2200 feet of vert from the summit to the end of the snow. Quote
mzchristy Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I skied it this weekend, and although wet and muddy, the ski conditions weren't too bad. There is one steep section that may require some elegant "tree branch" belays (the mud flow is impressive), but the climb is well worth it. Quote
wolfs Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I did that chute then schwack technique last year. Would concur it is worth it; otherwise there just isn't that much fall line to skiing Ruth. The brush there is low until the last small section over the ridge and if you are lucky you can catch some goat trails or snow fingers to ease the steep heather/scree/grass. Quote
