Charlie_Ward Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 I skied S Sister Memorial Day weekend. I was able to put on skis at the car at Devils Lake and keep them on all the way to the ridge just below the Lewis Glacier. A large group is planning to hike the mountain on June 24. Does anyone know current snow conditions up through the "golf course" above Moranie Lake and on up the trail to the summit? What about speculation for June 24? Any info is appreciated. Quote
mbynum Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I'm hoping to climb S Sister this Saturday (6/16), I too would appreciate any info on current conditions. Would it be doable for people without ice axe or crampon experience? Quote
dinomyte Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Certainly doable, though I would always recommend a little practice. I was in the area a couple weeks ago. It was melting out quite a bit, and the snow was certainly getting soft in the afternoons. I'd recommend an alpine start. Quote
warrior1515 Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Be prepared for significantly less snow than what was reported to for memorial day weekend. I was there two week ago and hiked for 20 minutes before I put my skis on. I followed the hiking trail to the summit and needed to take my skis off a couple times due to too much rock. All this being said. I still had a great time and recommed it. Dave Quote
