archenemy Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 On another thread, there was a lot of discussion about us not imposing ourselves on other cultures. In many ways, I agree with this. But in some ways, I can't help but think some intervention might be helpful. http://www.cnn.com/video/player/player.html?url=/video/world/2007/04/30/robertson.afghan.abused.women.cnn Quote
sk Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 i agree. I think in many cases people need to be helped. and it is the women who are with out education, family support or hope that pull my heart and make me want to help in someway. it sounds like many changes are coming. the laws change but the culture is more slow to change.Cultures have always been more slow to change than laws... even in this country. Just this year there was a school in the south that had their first unsegregated prom 40 years later. I pray for the next generations of women. thanks for sharing archie. that was terribly sad and a good reminder of all that we are lucky we do not have to face. that whole arranged or forced marriage thing... I think i would have tried to kill myself too. Quote
Serenity Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I didn't watch your video, but I just read an intel report from the south (Helmand Province) in which a young girl was forced into marriage with her dead husbands younger brother. She's 24, and he is now 5. He calls her 'auntie' Quote
