3fngrs Posted February 14, 2001 Posted February 14, 2001 anyone have any opinions on Nunatak gear, good bad or indifferent? am looking at their down bags, and Feathered Friends, and trying to decide between the two for a twenty degree bag. Quote
AJ Posted February 14, 2001 Posted February 14, 2001 Mike "Gator" Gauthier gave them a plug at a recent slide show (at The North Face store). He mentioned using a super lightweight bag in Alaska. Apparently you can get custom stuff pretty easily. Quote
Rodchester Posted February 14, 2001 Posted February 14, 2001 The guy running the show at Nanutak is former Feathered Friends employee. The gear is slowly building a very good rep. You may want to consider a -5 to 0 degree, just because you can do it all in the Cascades with a 0 degree, winter, spring, summer, and fall. If you want a summer bag, consider going with 30 - 40 degree bag. Very light. I have a -5 down for winter, spring, and fall and a superlight 40 degree bag for summer. It is the way to go. 20 degree bags tend to be not warm enough for winter and too big and warm for summer. My two cents ------------------ Have a nice day. Quote
mneagle Posted March 11, 2001 Posted March 11, 2001 I have a Swift by FF which has the extra shoulder room I need to keep from compressing the down. I got it w/ 2 extra ounces and 800 fill that brought it down to a 20 degree bag that still weighs only 2 1/4 lbs and crushes down to nothing. The Epic shell has shed water great. The continuous baffles let you shift the down around to cool things down in the summer. Quote
