dkemp
Hello everyone! The Bushwhacker Climbing Club announces our second sponsorship of Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course, Saturday March 31 - Tuesday April 3, at the Rescue Specialists school in Leavenworth, WA. WAFA is a nationally recognized wilderness first aid course developed by the people at Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA). This is the same outfit that created the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course. WMA creates the courses and certifies instructors. The courses are then taught by those instructors at learning centers around the country. Rescue Specialists is one such learning center. They have a great place - a modern ranch-style center with kitchen, showers and a bunkhouse. They have a lawn outside where they practice scenarios, and beyond that is a forest where they do more scenarios. Instruction is top-notch; these guys teach WFR and WEMT so they can certainly handle WAFA. The course is moderately difficult. Four days with eight hours of instruction - lectures and scenarios - requiring participation and some homework in the evening. The cost is $400 per person. The cost includes instruction, materials, plus bunk lodging, breakfast and lunch. Note that the entire fee goes to Rescue Specialists, and none to the club. The club is sponsoring this WAFA course, but you need not be a member of the club to participate. Plus we will not hit you up to join the club. Fifteen of us participated in 2006 and all agreed it was great. Highly recommended! Registration is OPEN as of NOW. Course dates are Saturday March 31 - Tuesday April 3. Please send me an email to register at information@bushwhackerclimbingclub.org. Here is the website for WMA - http://www.wildmed.com/ See Course Descriptions, WAFA. And here is the website for Rescue Specialists in Leavenworth - http://www.rescuespec.com/ Wilderness first aid training is a crucial skill in the mountains. This course will be informative and fun.
