dmuja Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Dear Fellow iShuffle hounds, After that first bad experience with an iPOD Shuffle, I decided that maybe it was the unit itself. Now I gots me another and IT FUKIN WORKS! Now, to recognize me in the mountain environment, Ill be the one perched with a stupid grin on my face, white ear-buds stuck in those hole thingys on the side of my head, totally oblivious to the catastrophic rock fall from above - which you will be so gallantly attempting to warn me of. Show of hands if you got one please? Maybe we could use this thread to solve any issues/ how to's etc..In fact, this is the unofficial climbers iPOD Shuffle thread. So far I downloaded just 4 songs that were in my iTUNES library, but thats 3 more then I could download with my first "defective" one. Rock on dudes! Yours tenaciously, D Quote

Chad_A Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Love my Ipod Shuffle. No issues yet (fingers crossed), although I do get "bug updates", so maybe they're getting the issues resolved. Now if I could get all my partners to get something of the sort...so I don't feel like I'm tuning them out on approaches Yes, Tool does rock. As does Slayer. Quote
dmuja Posted December 29, 2006 Author Posted December 29, 2006 (edited) Ok, Apple, you suck! Take me to a Volkswagen dealer.. I jumped the gun. The "error" (#'s -50, 1417, 1418, maybe a few more as well) has returned. Im fucking determined this time though. Basically there is a VERY WIDESPREAD error that many people are getting from their iPOD 2nd generation Shuffles - very common (as someone tried to tell me earlier). What happened in my case was this: It WIll allow an intitial down load of however many songs you choose to put on it from your iTunes Library - great! BUT, it WILL NOT allow you to add anymore songs after that one, initial down load!! Many people are having this issue. Id just take this thing back (AGAIN) but its so tiny and weightless and good sounding that I am determined to find a way around this bug. I have found that way (it worked once)- with a little help. If you are getting this error and have just purchased or recieved a 2nd generation iPOD shuffle, you may have to play around a bit before you understand what is going on but basically you have to load everything that you want on it all at once and at the beginning (ie the first time you plug you iPOD into the USB port) - it seems to me at this point. So when you want to add songs to the unit your going to have to go through this fun little process in order to fool your system into thinking every time you download is the very FIRST time. It involves re-formatting the iPOD and re-loading it with songs - maybe each time? Im not sure yet. Here are the brief directions for doing so..it may not seem worth all the extra shit but if you like the physical features of the 2nd gen Shuffle as much as I do you it might be worth the hassle. --------- iPod 2nd generation shuffle - the ("a") fix for errors -50,1417,1418 Follow directions as follows: =================================== Disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then go to “start> right click my computer> manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click stop service.” Then connect the ipod and it should show up in my computer. Format it so all content is gone. ------------------------------------ Next, go back to “start> right click my computer> manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click Start service.” This should have the service running again. -------------------------------- SHUT DOWN ITUNES AND DISCONECT IPOD --------------------------------- Open iTunes and connect the shuffle. When it says to automatically fill it (the window that pops up) dont un-click it, proceed so the shuffle autofills. Before it stops, quickly go to the settings tab. Then, scroll down to where it says “enable disk use”. select that and hit apply. Now, you manually eject the iPod (THE WAY YOU DISCONECT ANY USB DEVICE) and you can manage your music! END---------- that came from--> http://www.1418hell.com/2006/11/04/itunes-breaks-2nd-generation-shuffles-too/ BTW - Why is it that with computers, we allow shit to work like 70% time and still call it good? TREETOAD Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 I hate it when you look up from you ipod and you are on the other side of the road, I wish Apple could do something about that. Quote
joblo7 Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 or the other side of the crevasse....!!!!! Quote
Chad_A Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 That sucks that yours is giving you issues. I'm almost waiting for mine to do the same. Still, if they could just get it to work consistently, what a great little package that makes the slog into, wherever, that much easier. Thanks for posting the fix! Let us know if your problem gets better. I'm guessing that there's more than a couple owners out there that would look at this. Quote
