imorris Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 B.C. SELKIRKS - ADAMANT RANGE Just got back from 10 days up in the Adamants. We were helicoptered in to Fairy Meadows in overcast conditions. Next day it dumped six inches of new snow. Skied the trees. Next day was clear, so we skied out to Pioneer Pass over the Granite Glacier. Icefall is visible but crevasses were mostly buried. Next day we skied through Friendship Col and climbed Pioneer and Sentinel peaks. Both had spectacular views of the rest of the Adamants (often called the mini-Chamonix of the Selkirks). If you want big walls to climb in an outrageous alpine setting, you'll find them here. Skied from the col back down to the meadows. Following day was spent yo-yoing some slopes, then a friend and I traversed the Adamants through Thor Pass, across the Adamant and Thor glaciers, over Azimuth ridge, and down to the base of Mount Sir Sandford to the Great Cairn Hut, where we weathered out a few storm days waiting for a break to get a helicopter in to get us out of there. Southern aspects were dangerous (deep faceted layers under a crust, and now loaded w/ new snow). A spectacular trip, good weather when we needed it. Quote
