TreserJ Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I'm going to be up in the Twisp/Winthrop area the week of Christmas and wanted to do a bit of climbing. Any suggestions for some of your favorites that are accessible in the winter? Looking for 1-2 day trips. Oh, and no ice climbs. Was thinking maybe Silver Star or Gardner? Quote
TreserJ Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 No, but I don't mind skiing a few miles. Quote
goatboy Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I bet going up Silverstar Creek, camping up there somewhere, and climbing SS in the winter would be great. Both summits of SS are enjoyable snowy objectives... Probably a bit harder to get into Gardner, I would think... Quote
Good2Go Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 As I recall, SS creek is about a 30 minute snomo ride in from Mazama, so it isn't a short ski approach by any means. Quote
goatboy Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 As I recall, SS Creek is very near where they gate the road for winter...are you thinking of the pullout on the road below the wine spires, considerably further up the road? If so, that's not SS Creek. Quote
Good2Go Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Yep, that's what I was thinking. I stand corrected. Quote
TreserJ Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 I hear the closure point on that road varies on a weekly basis dependant upon the snow conditions. I'm having someone check on it this week. If it is closed too far down, anyone in that area with a snowmobile willing to drop a couple people off....for say a case a beer? Quote
rbw1966 Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I think you got bad info. Everytime I've been to Winthrop in the winter the road is plowed to where its gated. I'll be there for Christmas too. We're planning on doing some BC skiing. Quote
