michaeljosephnozel Posted May 2, 2001 Posted May 2, 2001 I am interested in doing the South Arete of Atwell/traverse to Garibaldi summit as soon as weather window opens. Does anyone have information on current conditions? Would be much appreciated. . . . Quote
Dru Posted May 2, 2001 Posted May 2, 2001 melted out. write it off for this season. best before end of march, due to south aspect Quote
wotan_of_ballard Posted May 2, 2001 Posted May 2, 2001 a much more mellow, but probably in condition (in May) route is the N ridge of Atwell. check out a good photo in Bivouac.com, search under Atwell. Brohm Ridge approach is shorter than elfin lakes. Quote
michaeljosephnozel Posted May 3, 2001 Author Posted May 3, 2001 Dru, and wotan of ballard: Thank you for the replies--was a bit concerned, especially in this low snow year. (Fears confirmed. . . unfortunately). Do either of you know about conditions for North Face of Dalton Dome/traverse to Garibaldi summit? Quote
Dru Posted May 3, 2001 Posted May 3, 2001 probably not in the greatest shape right now with a meter of slushy new not yet bonded. but give it a week or two and it might be good. Quote
Dru Posted May 3, 2001 Posted May 3, 2001 expect some partially open crevasses on the anniversary, and a lot of sloppy crud snow. I was up there a few wks ago and joffre glacier had some patches of blue ice showing in the seracs. Quote
John_Hollett Posted May 4, 2001 Posted May 4, 2001 Dru, how about Matier - anniversary glacier this weekend on a low snow year? Quote
michaeljosephnozel Posted May 4, 2001 Author Posted May 4, 2001 Dru: Once again, thank you for the beta. Weather permitting, we may make the drive up on the weekend of the 18th, to take a closer look. If it looks good, we'll give it a go. And if we do, I'll give you the report. Quote
