G-spotter
Climb: Coquihalla Pass-Ottomite Mtn Date of Climb: 11/18/2006 Trip Report: I skiied up Ottomite from the pass today. Good thing it's easy terrain cause I am pretty rusty on skis. There were a ton of wet slab avalanches coming off Zopkios Ridge, destroying mature trees, pushing over boulders in boulderfields etc - it was awe inspiring to behold. Yak was 100% white when I got there and 50% gray when I left. Quite a few avalanches over Needle way too in the bowls. Temp was around +3C in the pass and just freezing on Ottomite summit (1470m). Around a meter of snow in the pass, more higher up. 5 to 10 cm of wet fluff on top of a raincrust with more fluff below. Broken trail already existed to Ottomite summit from skis and snowshoes. Gear Notes: Skins, AT skis Approach Notes: Even in Extreme avvy danger you can basically ski up to Ottomite with no worries.
