Has any one tried or evan seen(other than in the mags) the mad rock mtn. boots? They are advertised at 179.00 u.s. approx 200cdn? If they are a decent boot I would be tempted to buy a pair seeing that they are nearly half price anything else out their. I am looking to replace my old ice climbing boots this year and just wondered if anyone has tried these

I picked up a pair for my wife and she seems to like them (though admittedly she's no expert in ice climbing boots). At outward appearance they look to be pretty solid boots.

i have seen them, but haven't tried them. the feedback that i heard was that the climbing rubber soles wear out too quickly, and that they'll have a new version out next year to fix that problem.

I think hemp22 was talking about the boots. I picked up a pair of the alpinist model from REI when they first started carrying them this past spring. The stickiness of the soles really impressed me - in fact they left marks on my linoleum. But the fit didn't work out.

These are pretty good boots. I wore them in Bolivia in July and found them to be a bit on the chilly side, but climbed in them in the Cascades in late August and September and found them to be very comfortable.
